Verizon Introduces Universal Music
Ringback Tones
04/18/2005 03:08 PM
Ringback tones, which aren't terribly new, are little snippets
of music that play instead of the usual ringing you hear when calling
someone’s cell phone. Verizon just teamed up with Universal Music,
they of Mariah Carey and U2 fame, in order to offer 500+ beloved hits.
Verizon uses the universal iconography of music—dancing
silhouettes—to explain.
Verizon announced ringbacks last November for $1.99 a year plus a
99 cent monthly subscription. I can’t wait to regale my friends and
family with a tinny ringback rendition of Baby Bash's Super
Saucy.
