said it plans to offer a video service in automobiles with Microsoft
Corp. next year and expects to create several channels with
children’s programming. The service is due to start in the
second half of 2006, Sirius said in a statement today. The company
will work with Microsoft and use Windows Media Video 9 to deliver the

handheld devices that use Windows Mobile.
Owners of Portable Media Centers, smart phones and pocket computers
will be able to download daily programs and other video content from
MSNBC.com, Food Network, Fox Sports, IFilm and other content
providers, Microsoft said. The company had
announced plans for the
MSN Video Downloads service at the Consumer
Electronics Show in January. Microsoft said about 20 content partners,
including CinemaNow, MTV, Napster and TiVo, have agreed to make video
formatted for devices using Windows Mobile since the launch of
Portable Media Center last
year.

will provide daily television programming, including video content
from MSNBC.com, Food Network, FOX Sports and IFILM Corp., for download
to Windows Mobile-based devices such as Portable Media Centers and
select Smartphones and Pocket PCs running Windows Media Player 10
Mobile.
Since the launch of the Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Portable Media
Center last fall, more than 20 new content partners, including
CinemaNow Inc., MLB.com, MSNBC.com, MSN Music, MTV Networks Music,
Napster Inc., SnapStream Media Inc. and TiVo Inc., have agreed to make
video available online specifically formatted for Windows Mobile-based
multimedia devices.
The company says the MSN Video Downloads is one of the first online
video download services dedicated to portable entertainment. The
service is initially available in the United States only and a
one-year premium membership to the MSN Video Downloads service with
access to all available videos costs US$19.95. In addition, people can
access a limited amount of free content without a paid membership.

says it will add video transmissions to its U.S. pay-radio system in
2006.
In another splash of technology convergence that is seeing the
boundaries melt between all forms of electronic communications, Sirius
said yesterday that in the second half of 2006 it will add two or
three channels of video content to the lineup of about 120 channels of
digital music, talk and information that it already beams by satellite

Common Language Runtime and Mono. The CLR version runs some benchmarks
as fast or faster than the native C implementation of Python.
