HOUSTON (AP) -- Ivan's second foray into the United States came with little wind but plenty of the rain that became the 3-week-old system's calling card as it raked the Caribbean and eastern United States, while Floridians braced for another possible pounding as Hurricane Jeanne appeared to be gearing up for a weekend landing.

AP - A slow-rolling series of storms that battered the West this week brought snowfall and high wind Thursday to parts of California, where weather-weary residents have already endured lashing rain, heavy snowfall and a destructive tornado. Since the wild weather began slogging ashore Monday, five deaths in California and two in Colorado have been blamed on storms.

Many of you may be experiencing a white holiday season this year. Some of you may not. Here is something for both cases.

Let it snow let it snow, er wait

Let it snow let it snow, er wait 01/07/2004 06:51 PM
snow!6 - 11 inches of snow is forecast for NYC in the next three days. I can see snow already falling outside my window here at work, and this is what's predicted for tomorrow:

Snow along with gusty winds at times. Cold. Temps nearly steady in the low 30s. Winds NNE at 20 to 30 mph. Snow accumulating 4 to 7 inches.

Yikes! Tomorrow morning is my NYRR Hot Chocolate 15K, which I'm really looking forward to. Hopefully it won't be too snowy to run, and then after it's over, I can come home and get in my cozy bed and read all afternoon as it snows heavily outside.

Update: totally weird. Exactly a year ago it was snowing as well, and I was excited and posting about it. And a year ago, Gina posted a picture of snow outside her window at work. It's starting to look like that outside our window here at work, a year later. Does this simultaneous anniversary snowstorm mean that we'll have another snowy winter? Or are we experiencing some strange Groundhog Day (the movie, not the Day) experience?

USA Today Dumps Ann Coulter
Citing editorial differences, USA Today dropped Ann Coulter's column before it even began in the paper.

The disputed column on www.anncoulter.com begins "Here at the Spawn of Satan convention in Boston" and devolves rapidly into a bitter little snark against Democrats. I wonder why USA Today had a problem with it?

It ends with "I'd say I love all these Democrats in Boston so much I want them to go home, but I don't. I want Americans to get a good long look at the French Party and keep the 7-11 challenge in mind."

Unless I'm missing it, though, there's no way to return Yahoo's results as RSS instead of HTML.

RIAA squats and dumps on nation's
libraries
06/23/2004 02:12 PM
As part of the antitrust settlement against the RIAA, the record labels are obliged to donate a large number of discs to public libraries. Rather than giving America's libraries decent music, the RIAA is dumping the worst deletes and cutouts in their warehouses, dumpsterloads of reeking liquid shit, and blaming it all on a computer error:
The Des Moines (Iowa) Public Library was on track to take the lead in redundancies, though the identification of the programming bug may come in time to avert what might have been a record overkill. Its crate of 2,647 CDs, due to arrive in the next couple weeks, was listed as containing 430 single-song discs -- 16 percent of the total -- of Whitney Houston singing "The Star Spangled Banner" at the 1991 Super Bowl, according to Steve Cox, of the Iowa State Library.

Big tragedy: Vodafone dumps Microsoft
smartphone
12/22/2003 12:41 PM
Why it is a big tragedy for Microsoft smartphone? Because Vodafone is the biggest and the most successful cellular network operator in the world and it´s "Vodafone Live!" service is an ideal towards which several other operators are working. If Vodafone (the largest operator in the world) and T-Mobile (second largest operator in the world) are saying that Microsoft smartphone is not good enough for them then it truly is a tragedy.
