Mark Frauenfelder: Disney designer Steve Lodefink's car was in a parking garage and it got bashed by a hit-and-run driver. Steve found a stray hubcap next to his car, and using hupcaps.org, he identified the model of the car. He printed out a picture of the car (an aggressively ugly car called the Mazda MPV minivan) and sent it, along with a statement of the facts, to the parking garage management.

The parking garage management reviewed the security tapes and found the vehicle. Steve got the license plate number, tracked down the registered owner's name, address and telephone number, and sent it to his insurance company. He ended up getting "a check for the full amount of the damages minus the $100 deductable for my uninsured driver coverage."

This Super Bowl halftime, make it to the Lingere Bowl. American TV hits a new low by inventing another sport along the lines of Foxy Boxing and Hot Oil Wrestling. The gridiron action features Team Dream vs. Team Euphoria (featuring washed-up former NFL players as coaches) in full contact football while wearing skimpy clothing. Even weirder, but there will be cheerleaders to cheerlead the players that are already dolled up to look like cheerleaders in some sort of subtle hot lesbian action. A $2,200 add-on to the new Toyota Prius hybrid car allows the car to parallel-park itself, using a sensor array.

A dashboard display shows the image taken by the camera. When you near a parking space and shift into reverse, computerized lines pop up on the display, along with arrows pointing up, down, left and right.

Using the arrows, you move the lines around until they define exactly where you want the car to be parked. Then you push the "set" button on the display.

Keep your foot lightly on the brake pedal, and the car will start backing up, the steering wheel responding to an invisible hand. Voila, the car will park itself in the spot you've chosen with the arrows.

I love CraigsList both as a service that I use and as an example of what's so damn right with the Web. I blogged earlier about the sale of 25% of the stock of Craigslist to eBay. Out of context, some people might not understand why this requires explaining or someone with a casual understanding might think Craig sold out. Here's some more context. (And no, Craig has not "sold out".)

Craig is a very unique individual and this interview and his site are a testament to that. In March, on the way to SXSW, I was with a group which had an airline nightmare at SFO. Craig negotiated with the extremely unhelpful Mesa Airlines for the whole group of us and was amazingly effective. I was moved by how he insisted that we were a group and was not willing to settle for anything that left anyone behind.
