2005...
12/31/2004 10:47 PMWow. Dude. 2005. That's fucked up right here. Two thousand and five
years into the Common Era. Which is like only a hundred generations or
something. One hundred tiny links in the enormous chain that includes
my mum, my gran, some weird hairy ape-like ancestors and a few large
numbers of protozoa (among others). At the moment of course it's 2005
in Europe and it's 2004 in America, which means that for the next few
hours we Europeans get to enjoy our flying cars and jetpacks and stuff
before the Americans collapse the wave-function and leave us with
Desperate Housewives and Pot Noodle. It's 3.15am. It's 3.15am and it's
the first day of a brand new year. I'm bored. Are we there
yet?

Microsoft Delivers Latest Visual Studio
2005 and SQL Server 2005 Releases
04/18/2005 11:14 AMMicrosoft Corp. today announced availability of Visual Studio® 2005
Beta 2, Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 and the SQL Server (TM)
2005 April Community Technology Preview (CTP), the latest milestone in
delivering these products to customers. Together, the products provide
a deeply integrated development and data management platform, enabling
customers to utilize existing skills and familiar tools to harness
data in powerful new ways that increase productivity and efficiency.
Several early adopters such as ABS-CBN Interactive, ORF and Townsend
Analytics Ltd. have deployed these products in their production
environments to reap the benefits of close tool and database
integration. Because of broad customer demand to work with these
prerelease products today, Microsoft also announced the Microsoft
Go-Live license program for customers interested in deploying Visual
Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition immediately. Microsoft
and multiple partners today also announced plans to provide customers
with educational resources that will help them prepare for the launch
of these two products.

04/07/2005 09:42 AMWhile today marks the day that both MSN Spaces and Messenger version 7

Will You Bring Your Own PC To Work?
Will You Bring Your Own PC To Work?
05/07/2004 04:14 PMPeople often
have
emotional attachments with their computers, even if that computer
is supplied by their employers. Going one step beyond the concept of
telecommuting and the so-called
commodit
ization of IT, some are wondering if a few years from now, people
will be
expected to bring their own computers to work, the same way
they're expected to drive their own cars to work. And, if that's the
case, what will it mean for the traditional role of the IT staffer who
used to have to get you set up with your computer and help you
troubleshoot when things weren't working properly? The article
suggests it may mean fewer IT jobs, since they won't have to manager
purchasing new machines and applications. However, it could mean a
shift of those jobs towards the new problem: making all of those
different PC configurations work together properly. Of course, that
seems like an opportunity as well. If things really do progress in
this manner, there will be a greater need for automation tools that
can help configure a machine to work within a specific corporate
network environment.
