Reuters - Apple Computer Inc. could decide to sell a lower-priced of its Macintosh computer to attract consumers already enamored of its iPod music player and annoyed by security problems with Windows PCs, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said on Thursday.

MacCentral - Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, took a cue from his boss, CEO Steve Jobs, as he unveiled one more thing at the end of his keynote to kick off this week's Apple Expo in Paris: an iMac G5 that includes the entire system inside a 17- or 20-inch LCD screen. Continuing the all-in-one theme that started with the original CRT iMac, the G5 edition features a new industrial design that does away with the hemispherical base of the previous generation all together. Schiller said that the new iMacs will be available in mid-September.

Analyst says Apple expanding its
Wal-Mart partnership
06/17/2005 05:54 PM
Apple Computer's partnership with Wal-Mart Stores may be broader than some realize and expanding in the near future, according to a Morgan Stanley analyst. MarketWatch reports today that Apple and Wal-Mart have been expanding their pact to sell versions of Apple's iPod digital music player from a test to a full partnership, marking a new development as of the last few months. "While we don't believe Apple iPod availability at Wal-Mart is completely new news, we do think the partnership is broader than people think, in transition and set to expand in the near-term," according to analyst Rebecca Runkle in a note to clients. "We do not believe Apple has a major inventory problem," she said. "We think much of the inventory chatter resulted from inventory increases ahead of broadening retail partnerships and sell-in ahead of new product launches." The analyst maintained an overweight rating and $60 target price on Apple's stock, saying that strong sales of the latest version of the company's operating system "Tiger" and its Macintosh computers can offset any volatility in iPod results for the near term. Runkle expects more product announcements from Apple over the summer and said she's a buyer of the shares on weakness.

Apple iMac G5

Apple iMac G5 08/31/2004 06:03 AM

imac_g5_paris.jpg imageAnd it lives! Apple has fully unveiled the new iMac G5, and it's basically a Pizza box PC that looks a lot like the new Cinema displays, except white. Available in 17- and 20-inch form, the machines will come with 1.6 and 1.8GHz G5 processors, respectively. I'll go ahead and throw up this post with pictures, then actually wake up and jump up with more details.

Update: One sort of geeky thing that immediately is noticable is that the iMac G5 doesn't share the "50% of the processor speed" bus as the PowerMac G5s. That's going to be a real performance wrinkler (although still a welcome bump from the G4).

Apple: iMac G5

As expected, the iMac G5 is a computer built into a flat-panel display, starting at $1299 for a 17-inch model.

Apple Hopes to Lower iPod Price

Apple Hopes to Lower iPod Price 06/14/2004 08:06 AM

ipod imageSo apparently during the summoning of Steve Jobs at the "D: All Things Demonic" conference last week, gygaxian Wall Street Journal incantor Walt Mossberg asked the fell creature about Apple's positioning of a low-end Mac, to which Jobs, snorting fire, replied, "We said we're going to invest in the iPod rather than a PDA and we also said it looks a lot like a $400 computer. And for us the volume is pretty good, so yes. But we want to make them cheaper still. I mean, we're not happy with iPods costing $300 and $400 and we want to keep driving the prices down on them so we're working very hard on that."

So there you go -- all it takes is a salted pentagram and a few natural 20s and we've summoned ourselves some cheaper iPods.

Also, someone told there's a country called 'Europe' somewhere on an island in the Atlantic and that Apple will be launching iTunes Music Store there tomorrow. I hear some people there don't even speak English -- how will they know what Beyonce is singing?! What a strange, wonderful world we live in.
