Some notes on the Go Daddy Sponsorship!

Some notes on the Go Daddy Sponsorship! 06/06/2005 12:01 AM

Everyone that watched the Superbowl commercials this year knows about Go Daddy, their was even something controversial when their second spot got pulled. It was nice to see a company be good natured and take a little political jab at Janet incident, from the year before. I liked Bob Parsons strategy, and that ad was largely responsible for my choosing Go Daddy as my new hosting provider. See advertising does pay off.

After the Superbowl Go Daddy had a huge increase in business, so much so that I think they were caught a little of guard. This is my personal speculation only, and we were caught up in that growth. When we switched the site to the new box, we had a couple of major issues early on, that were resolved to my complete satisfaction. One thing I must say about this company is this, they went the extra mile to make sure that the issue was resolved, I even had a conference call with a couple of their techs and the CTO to discuss the problem.

What amazed me the most even when I called them, and was mad they did react positively to my concerns in a way that made me think they really care about their customers. They even initiated some changes to my and I am sure some others suggestions that have resulted in some spectacular customer service.

So many times today companies give you the hand, and would rather loose you as a customer. But this company listened to my concerns and reacted like no company I have seen in a long time.

The server I have been on since signing up with Go Daddy is a Virtual Dedicated Server, and I think I have their middle hosting package with a couple of upgrades. I pay for that server now and will continue to out of my companies bank account, it is running in a rack along with the thousands of others, no special configuration or privileges. I get what every one else gets.

So don't get me wrong, if I have an issue, you all are going to be the first to know about it, as the site is hosted at Go Daddy. I am pretty happy to say though, that I have not restarted the server in over 15 days and the last time I did, was because I felt like it not that it needed it.

As a side note, when I put the Geek News Central Podcasts MP3 file on the net I do so at a third party hosting service. Their is a reason for that, in the first several hours that file is online, nearly 5000 of you download it. The box I am on at Go Daddy is not designed to handle that kind of load. But it does handle the 10 or so domains I have running on it at the moment. The box moved about 400 gigs of traffic last month and our website is pretty high volume.

I am very happy to have Go Daddy as a sponsor and look forward to bringing you some great deals. Tune into the Podcast tomorrow because if your looking to save some money on domain registrations I am going to have some promo codes to pass out.

One thing you don't have to worry about, I will my same old objective self. Todd..

Jack Chick creationist comic "Big Daddy"

Jack Chick creationist comic "Big Daddy" 12/19/2004 03:34 PM
Xeni Jardin: BoingBoing reader Tommy York says,
Recently, at a school rally of mine here in San Francisco, I came across the booth of the Christian club at school, AGAPE. I decided to pick up a few little comics of theirs, and I came across this one - one the denounces evolution, procedes to denounce the whole theory of the "atom" too, and by disproving evolution, of course, shows that the only logical alternative is that Jesus is the creator. Propaganda like this in public schools seems a bit off to me.
Link to page-by-page photos of "Big Daddy" creationist comic book. I can't help but wonder what the whole thing would sound like read in the voice of Mr. Slave from South Park. I mean, "Big Daddy"? The unshaven monkey with the banana on the cover looks vaguely Tom of Finland. Oh jesusth christth, Jack Chick!

Update: Reader Lance Simmons says, "There's a much better copy of Big Daddy at the publisher's site." Link. See also these previous BoingBoing posts on Jack Chick's Christian comix: Link, and Link 2.

Bush – 41st President of the United States – disagrees with his son’s decisions in the invasion and occupation of Iraq, which is why the former President has not commented in public on the war. “The President and I discuss the war privately,” the elder Bush said in an interview earlier this year. “That is the way it will remain.” But sources close to the Bush family say the elder Bush thinks his son has mishandled the war in Iraq.

Honolulu, Hawaii. (June 2, 2005) Podcast Connect, Inc., parent company of GeekNewsCentral.com, one of the top technical podcast worldwide, announced today a major long-term sponsorship deal with GoDaddy.com. The Geek News Central Podcast is produced and released twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday at 6 a.m. (EST).

"This is one of the first long-term sponsorship deals to hit the Podcasting Channel," says Todd Cochrane, host of the Geek News Central Podcast, and author of the first book on podcasting, "Podcasting: The Do It Yourself Guide" (www.amazon.com/podcasting) .

Geek News Central is uniquely positioned to deliver great incentives for Go Daddy products and services in the coming months. Readers of the Geek News Central website and listeners of the Geek News Central podcast will be able to take advantage of special pricing on Go Daddy products.

Cochrane says this is the perfect marketing fit. "I have used Go Daddy products for a long time, and their product line is one I endorse and stand behind."

The Geek News Central website is currently hosted on a Go Daddy Virtual Dedicated Server. Additionally, Cochrane has over 30 domains registered through the Go Daddy domain registration service.

The Geek News Central website is where Cochrane and his crew of associate editors talk about technology, fair use, DRM, and other significant world events. Cochrane's podcast is a reflection of the website. His shows and website cover important issues including strong family values (his show is child safe and educational). Not only does Todd talk tech and bring the topics down to a level that the average person can understand, but he also has his thumb on the heartbeat of the podcasting community.

Detailed descriptions of prior shows can be found at www.geeknewscentral.com /podcasts. The show is always free and lots of fun.

Lou Reed is another artist that should check out the Recombo license. Here's a great quote from him about his most recent recordings being remixed in this story:

"I've been getting all these great mixes sent to me out of the U.K. for years and years," he told Attitude magazine, "and I just started saying to the record company, 'Look, I really, really love what they are doing.' I think that my record company was a little taken aback but, genuinely, if I could make that type of music then I would. If I could master the equipment then I would love to.

omheader.jpgIt's night time in Califgornia on a Sunday night - and once again Om Malik has an exclusive (at least to me):

AT&T SBC deal is done

ALERT: WSJ just announced that two companies have reached a tentative deal and it could be announced pretty soon. According to the report, AT&T CEO David Dorman will become the president of the joint company, while SBC Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre is going to retain those two positions. AT&T will have three board seats on the new combined company’s board. “SBC is expected to keep using the AT&T brand name, at least in dealing with its business customers, because the AT&T name is recognized all over the world. SBC’s brand, by comparison, has little recognition outside its territory of mostly Southwestern and Western states,” The Journal adds. The $15-billion stock plus $ 1 billion cash deal turns SBC into the largest phone company in the US, with presence in local, long distance, wireless and business markets. More to follow later!

Man on Man - those dinosaurs just love to mate and fuck themselves.
