The US$999 suite contains more than 815 film effects designed to be used with Apple's Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro software, bundling five Reelhouse libraries including Filmbacks FX, Film Leader FX Library 1, 16MM Film FX, Ultimate Countdowns and Film Leader FX Library 2. As the clips are pre-rendered movies, not effects, they can be dropped into any video or DVD timeline without needing to be rendered first. Members can get $100 off any order by registering now through July 15th.

There are big plans for the animation house that built "Shrek" 1 and 2 -- a $650 million IPO and a split from parent company DreamWorks SKG, which was originally formed to unite the creative forces of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and record producer David Geffen.

DreamWorks Animation, based in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale, California, would be controlled by Katzenberg and Geffen. Katzenberg would be chief executive and Geffen would sit on the board, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission... Roger Enrico, former chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Inc., would be chairman of the new company. Spielberg would not hold a seat. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, an initial DreamWorks investor, would sit on the board and could cash out some of his original investment, although the filing does not say he will.

Ah, those crazy kids. They love the video games, so of course they'll also love a PC/Mac video game that subtly teaches them about world hunger. That's what the United Nations hopes will happen with the free release of "Food Force," a game that was developed by the U.N.'s World Food Programme. We're always skeptical of bureaucrats who co-opt new media for transparent purposes. People -- especially kids -- tend to see right through them. But you never know. The success of "Amer ica's Army" shows that if done well, a government-esque game can succeed regardless of its ulterior motives.
