Digital Infrared photography

Digital Infrared photography 06/28/2004 11:01 PM
Shooting outside of our vision. Infrared photography is cool - the world looks surreal. But man, it's a PIA. Just keeping the film at the right temperatures is difficult. So, all of this can be done digitally. I still haven't gotten around to buying the necessary pieces, but in replying to this Ask MetaFilter question, I remembered eric cheng's page. For your perusal.

IR-light-1.jpg imageAlthough you wouldn't want to use one in a battle against other night vision-enabled spies, this $150 1-million candlepower infrared spotlight from Night Vision Experts would be pretty handy for illuminating things that couldn't see the invisible beam, like deer or your sleepwalking neighbor. It will work with everything from the oldest and junkiest Generation 0 gear up to modern Generation 3 equipment.

Problems with Sony Ericsson's P900?

Problems with Sony Ericsson's P900? 12/02/2003 01:23 AM
The Inquirer is reporting that some problems have arisen with Sony Ericssons' new P900 smartphone and that they're so bad that cellular carrier Orange has recalled the first shipments made in the UK. Of course, they don't specify what those problems might be, only that a "usually reliable source" had indicated that something was wrong. Read UPDATE: Sony Ericsson is denying that there is any problem, and The Inquirer is now admitting that their source could have "confused the P900 with the SX1" from Siemens, which still isn't out yet. Read...

We've gotten a hold of the internal documents from Sony Ericsson that move the P900 upgrade (codename: Layla) from vapor to confirmed. It's clear from the information that the Layla isn't finalized, and to expect some changes as the "ergonomics [are] being evaluated." Even better, the Tri-band phone is tweaked...

P900 successor with a tiny, frustrating

05/04/2004 09:19 AM
Apparently, this is a leaked pic of the successor to the Sony Ericsson P900 (the phone I plan on getting as soon as my first bank-statement appears and I use it to authenticate myself to the dumbass phone company that thinks bank-statements are better ID than Canadian passports). Call it the P901, or the P1000, whatever: it's got a wee keyboard on the flip-down for those who prefer thumbing out their executive haiku to scratching at a recalcitrant handwriting-recognition system. It looks like it might be a photoshop job, but Rojas at Engadget says that MobileBurn, the source, is reliable, and I'll take his word for it. Link (via Engadget)

Somewhere along the line, TV news stopped reporting on candidates' policies, and turned instead to trivia that supposedly reveal their personalities. Caching Issues

    Caching Issues 12/10/2003 06:39 PM

It sounds like there are two primary caching complaints that come up over and over in my blog comments. The first is that Safari caches subresources too aggressively, and the second is that Safari fetches subresources too aggressively. :)

We found the first problem. The WebCore cache was not actually making use of the proper expiration dates, which meant the WebCore memory cache would keep using stale objects even though they should have expired. We have fixed the problem, and we believe this will solve the vast majority of the stale content issues.
