Peerio444 to bring VoIP to Mac, Windows,
Linux users
05/26/2004 12:17 PM
Popular Telephony Inc. on Wednesday announced Peerio444, a serverless Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication product aimed at Mac, Windows and Linux users alike. With Peerio444 installed, users will be able to make telephone calls using their computer -- freely to other computers, and for a nominal fee to regular telephones. Popular Technology explained that Peerio444 is different from other solutions as it eschews "spyware" and is peer-to-peer, requiring no server to communicate. Peerio444 will also be compatible with H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standards.

Using a Linux server with a Mac

Using a Linux server with a Mac 08/27/2004 02:00 PM
Until recently, I was using a Blue & White G3/350 as my file server. When the drive died suddenly, I decided to replace it with a Linux box, since the G3 can't handle drives larger than 120G and the IDE performance is poor by today's standards. With some trial and error, I found an optimal setup for using Linux as a file server for Macs.

The developers of the amaroK media player for KDE have used the tracks from the WIRED CD as content for their demo Live CD. Boot the CD in a PC and you can try out armaroK with zero installation. Great idea. USB memory and hardware media player vendors take note -- you can ship your device with great music without asking for permission, because permission has alreaedy been granted.
