: In the two weeks following Apple's announcement that iPod mini
worldwide availability had been pushed back to July, neither Apple
resellers nor the company's retail stores have received a shipment of
iPod minis.
In the article, AppleInsider speculates a new 4th
generation iPod could "hit the streets in time for the 1 year
anniversary of the iTunes online music store on April 28th."

Asustek wins iBook order from Apple
06/22/2005 01:54 AMApple has made a deal with Asustek Computer Inc. for the production of
about 500,000 14.1-inch widescreen iBooks, according to the Economic
Daily News.
The report also said that Asustek has secured orders for the 15.4-inch
iBook, that will be launched in 2006, and offered a major discount to
secure the contract against Quanta Computer for the deal. Quanta is a
major contractor for Apple's PowerBooks and also manufactures iMacs
for the company.

09/03/2004 08:23 AMAsustek Computer has received OEM orders for the iPod mini digital
music player from Apple Computer, according to market sources. Asustek
is the second Taiwan-based manufacturer of the digital devices since
Inventec Appliances also produces the iPod for Apple. Asustek will
assemble and ship the iPod to Apple from its plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu
Province (China), the sources said.
The iPod orders will help Asustek in working toward its goal of
becoming a key provider of consumer electronics products, the sources
noted. In related news, Inventec is expected to continue to supply
Apple with its current iPod models. In addition, Inventec is also
likely to secure orders for a similar version of the iPod from
Hewlett-Packard (HP), the sources said. Apple and HP entered into an
agreement earlier this year for HP to resell the iPod under the HP
brand.
Asustek and Inventec both declined to comment on the report, citing
client confidentiality

years of unsuccessful attempts by Creative, Dell, Rio, Samsung and

Auvi SA1500: iPod Mini-Sized 20GB Player
Auvi SA1500: iPod Mini-Sized 20GB Player
08/23/2004 10:51 AM
Now this is the way to challenge the iPod:
go smaller. While most players appeal to the nerd core by packing in
tons of obscure (if welcome) features, the Auvi SA1500 tries a
different tack, cramming a 20GB hard drive into a unit just a hair
bigger than the iPod mini. Add in a 20 hour playback time and
it's easy to call this one a contender even without having seen one in
person. The price is too high; UK retailer Firebox is expected to have
them on sale soon for around $450, although for whatever reason the UK
always seems to get nailed with higher prices, so a US model would
probably be cheaper. If they can get it out there, though, and not
screw up the user interface, the SA1500 will definitely turn a few
heads.
