Playboy has
released a little one-off collection of pictures designed for viewing
on the iPod Photo called the 'iBod.' It's essentially a ZIP archive
with 25 low-resolution pictures—something you could do with your
own porn collection in an instant—but it's got the iPod and this
fancy graphic here, so it's easy to trick gullible gadget writers into
writing about it, without even knowing how silly they look as they are
typing the very words in front of them.

Free WiFi turns coffee-shack into
freelancer It Spot
12/18/2003 10:31 AMInteresting piece about a Dallas coffee-hut that added free WiFi and
now finds itself playing host to a slew of Cheers-like regulars,
freelance workers who hang out and use the shop as their office.
``You get all the colds ... you have to be able to work through loud
noise, you have to be able to focus and tune out even more so than in
an office,'' he said. ``Babies are one of the biggest hazards. The
screaming child at the table next to you ... you don't get that at
work.''
As a person who spends hours each day at a coffeehouse, Smith is
always mindful of the fact that he is in someone else's place of
business. He doesn't go behind the counter to help himself to a
refill, even though he knows where everything is as well as any
employee, and he always dresses nicely as if he were going into the
office -- albeit a casual one.

Webcomic creator turns down Universal
Syndicate, offers works for free to any
newspaper
08/03/2004 05:15 AMThe creator of PVP Online, a webcomic, has decided to try to put the
funnypapers sydicates out of business by publicly inviting any
newspaper in the USA to syndicate him for free.
This last year, I was contacted by Universal Press Syndicates about
PvP. They know the strip and were very interested in syndicating it as
a feature. I would love to see PvP in newspapers and we started talks.
I let them know that there were six years of archives available and
that I could edit the strips to conform to family paper editorial
standards. The only thing I could not do was give up my ownership and
rights to my creation.
Under no circumstances would I relinquish my copyright, book deals,
merchandise deals, rights to market my strips, etc. If they wanted
PvP, we would agree to a newspaper distribution deal and that was it.
After six weeks the syndicates returned with their answer: They wanted
PvP...all of it. If they could not have the rights to the feature,
they weren't interested. So we parted ways.
But I've already become attached to the idea of seeing PvP in the
papers, and that's why I've decided to start a new program. In the
coming months, I'll be putting into effect, a program in which papers
can receive PVP for free. That's right, free. They don't have to pay
me a cent for it. I will provide for the papers, a comic strip with a
larger established audience then any new syndicated feature, a years
worth of strips in advance, and I won't charge them a cent for it.

Spymac + iStockphoto = Free iPod photo
Spymac + iStockphoto = Free iPod photo
03/19/2005 03:26 AMSpymac has teamed up with the stock photography double agents over at
iStockphoto to give all registered Spymac members the chance to win a
brand spanking new 60 GB iPod photo! All you have to do to enter is
create the godfather of all posters for SpyStock between March 18 and
April 18, 2005.
What is SpyStock? We have no idea, so that's why we need you to help
us out. The only information we have on SpyStock is that it's
centered around Spymac and iStockphoto. The rest is up to you my
friends. To help you on your artistic journey, the kind folks at
iStockphoto have supplied all participating members with eight top
notch images from their massive stock photography database. To access
these fine images, you'll need to visit the Spymac SpyStock gallery.
Once you've checked the images out, you're free to use as many as you
wish in your SpyStock masterpiece. To make things even more
interesting, you must use at least two of the iStockphoto-provided
images in your composition. Did I mention that the winner gets a
shiny new 60 GB iPod photo from the stock photography ninjas at
iStockphoto?
To recap then, the official rules are as follows:
1. The contest begins on March 18, 2005 and closes on April 18, 2005
2. The theme of the poster must be that of SpyStock
3. Aspects of both Spymac and iStockphoto must be included in the
poster
4. A minimum of two images from those provided by iStockphoto for the
SpyStock contest must be used in the composition of the poster
5. All entries must be upload to the official SpyStock Entries gallery
6. Multiple entries are allowed
7. You must be a registered member of Spymac to participate
8. The contest winner will receive a 60 GB Apple iPod photo
compliments of iStockphoto
9. All contest judging will be completed by the staff members of
iStockphoto
So, if to you, SpyStock is an event where the members of Spymac unite
to sing folk songs at a rodeo with guitars made of Lego while snapping
photographs on invisible stilts, doctor up a poster conveying that
message. Remember, aside from the outlined aspects that must be
included, SpyStock is whatever you want it to be. So get out your
crayons, thinking caps, G5s, rocket launchers, whatever works best for
you, and send us your smoking hot entries (luke-warm entries will also
be considered). Good luck to all who enter!
Entries can be uploaded here.
