Howard_W_Berry's Playlist: Life During Wartime by Talking Heads I've been a lifelong fan of Talking Heads, and it was incredibly hard for me to choose a track by them. However I think that this song represents them at their best. I think its content is even more relevant today, than it ever was. "This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no fooling around. This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B., I ain't got time for that now." Motet by Yellowjackets I can sit and listen to the Yellowjackets for hours. One of my favourite albums of theirs is "Mint Jam" which is a collection of some of their live tracks. Some of the best modern jazz today. Express Yourself by Madonna I had to throw in a classic Madonna track. At a time where she was still fresh and relevant, and not having to resort to lesbian kiss stunts with Britney. Express Yourself not only is one of my favourite Madonna tracks, it's also got a fantastic video - inspired by Fritz Lang's "Metropolis". "What you need is a big strong hand to lift you to your higher ground. Make you feel like a queen on a throne, Make him love you till you can’t come down" Reelin' in the Years by Steely Dan Steely Dan is the one band I would love to see live. They are so funky and original - and never cease to amaze me with each new album. "The weekend at the college didn't turn out like you planned, the things that pass for knowledge, I can't understand" There's No Other Way by Blur I've always been a fan of Blur. When I listen to their old tracks they really remind me of my time at Secondary School. Everyone was either a Blur or Oasis fan. As for Pulp? They were just rubbish! "You're taking the fun out of everything, Making me run when I don't want to think." There Goes the Neighborhood by Sheryl Crow There are so many great Sheryl Crow tracks out there but this one tops my list. When I listen to it, I can visualise so many things just from the lyrics. It's also a great song to have on when going for a drive! Shery Crow regularly appears on my 'driving playlists'. "I dropped acid on a Saturday night just to see what the fuss was about. Now there goes the neighborhood." Think by Aretha Franklin You can't beat Aretha! I first heard "Think" in 'The Blues Brothers' and was hooked ever since. This woman commands a great deal of R-E-S-P-E-CT! "Yeah think (think - think), Let your mind go - let yourself be free" Theme from Shaft by Isaac Hayes Many people seem to forget that this was actually from one of the most outstanding film scores of all time. Never before had anything like this been written for a film and nothing has been like it since. Forget John Shaft... Isaac Hayes is the man! "Ya damn right! " Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club Created as an offshoot of Talking Heads, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth founded the Tom Tom Club with their friends and family. Genius of Love is probably their best known track as it has been sampled in hundreds of tracks! "What you gonna' do when you get out of jail? I'm going to have some fun!" Cry Wolf by a-ha Yes I am a child of the 80s, and I'm proud of it! a-ha might really only be remembered for their video to 'Take on Me', but they wrote some really catchy music. Cry Wolf is a great piece of 80s pop - enjoyable fluff which you can sing along to. "Cry Wolf! Whoo-ooo!"
