Sopranos finale spoiler

Sopranos finale spoiler 05/28/2004 09:32 AM
Over at Blogcritics.org I've just posted my guess about how the season ends. (Don't worry, not only am I just making stuff up, but I'm pretty much batting 0 with my previous predictions.) Hint: I hope you're not too emotionally attached to the bear. I think it's been a good season. I love the ambiguity of Steve Buscemi's character. The episode featuring Meadow's boyfriend was difficult to watch, in the best sense, as was Adriana's big episode. My biggest disappointment, though, has been that I don't believe how the relationship with Carmella has developed; it feels like it's being pushed...

New York Group Plans Redunant Telecom
Wirelessly

New York Group Plans Redunant Telecom
Wirelessly
04/24/2004 10:43 PM
The Alliance for Downtown New York proposes a wireless backup plan for telecommunications: For $10 million, the Alliance proposes building a laser and microwave system that would sit on top of five of the tallest buildings in the area and have line of sight from most offices. The system would relay to two other locations, one in Manhattan and one probably in New Jersey, in the event of a loss of service. The idea is that companies unable to bear the enormous costs of building their own similar backup systems could piggyback on the Alliance's, which would be vendor neutral to phone companies. This might make businesses who locate in the area less concerned about being cut off from telecom in the future, come what may, although real estate agents think it won't make a practical difference: rents are cheaper and that attracts tenants. The article mentions that the Alliance issued a report about its free Wi-Fi zones in which they said that the network had become one of the busiest of its kind in the world. However, the report isn't on their Web site; I'm trying to get a copy. The redundant telecom network could be used actively to provide more bandwidth to the free Wi-Fi zones, the Alliance said. The MPAA was not happy enough with getting a injunction against 321 Studio's to stop selling a version of it's software, it is now going after 321 Studio's resellers in a bid to rid the marketplace of the software.

Their continued actions will result in the software becoming widely available on the Internet as more and more people will wonder why the MPAA targeted that version. [Yahoo]

Studios Sue Actor For Screener Leaks

Studios Sue Actor For Screener Leaks 01/29/2004 03:49 AM
While the FBI may have arrested the guy who actually put some movie screeners online for download, the studios want to make sure the message is clear to all screener recipients that it doesn't care if them or their friends/relatives/acquaintances who put the movies online. So, the actor suing the actor Carmine Caridi, who supposedly passed on his screeners to a friend. They're suing him for $150,000 for each of the 3 movies that were identified as his that ended up online. While this probably makes the movie studios think they're making a point, it's unlikely to do much to slow down movies showing up online.
