EA to buy 20 percent of Ubi Soft
12/22/2004 01:26 AMVideo game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) on Monday announced it would
buy nearly 20 percent of Ubi Soft Entertainment, feeding speculation
that it might bid for a complete takeover.
"It was very clear they were coming into the market one way or
another, and we felt it was important that we own the shares," EA CEO
Warren Jenson, told Reuters.
According to analysts, EA has a market capitalization of $18 billion,
sales of $2.9 billion and cash of $2.5 billion, and should easily be
able to afford Ubi Soft, which has a market value of about $500
million.
