International Phones Now at Stage 2: The
“Safety Device”
03/31/2005 08:57 AMThe ability to make an emergency call has been given as the top reason
for taking a cell phone when traveling, according to a survey by
Mobal, the international phone company. Mobal conducted the survey of
its customers after reporting an 80% increase in international cell
phone purchase during 2004, and believe the results show that US
citizens, although still concerned with global instabilities, are
increasingly confident to travel internationally. [PRWEB Mar 31, 2005]

Scary article about cell phone use and
brain damage
11/18/2003 02:04 PMThe jury is still out on whether wireless phones can cause brain
damage or cancer, but there are an increasing number of studies coming
out that suggest it might not be smart to yack all day on your
wireless phone.
Dr. Lief Salford, of Lund University in Sweden, who has called the
evolution of wireless phones 'the largest biological experiment in the
history of the world,' reported in June that cell phone radiation
damaged neurons in the brains of young rats.
The study showed cells in the parts of rats' brains that control
sensation, memory and movement died after being exposed to various
cell phones at different levels of radiation for two hours.
'The situation of the growing brain might deserve special concern,
since biological and maturational processes are particularly
vulnerable,' Salford said.
He cautioned that it is possible that after decades of daily use a
whole generation of users may suffer negative effects as early as
middle age. The paper was published in Environmental Health
Perspectives, a U.S. National Institutes of Health journal.

Kim Komando on Cell Phones
07/02/2004 01:22 AMKim Komando did a nice article on buying camera phones recently. She
discusses the importance of checking out the quality of the phone by
reading reviews and being selective when choosing a wireless carrier.
She then goes on to advise that you “try it before you buy
it”. Snap some photos to see how the images turn out. Her
message is clear as she explains that you need to know what to expect
from your carrier and what features you are wanting from your phone.

In 2001, New York became the first state to prohibit drivers from
using hand-held cell phones. A new study indicates that New York
drivers reduced their use of hand-held mobile phones by half a few
months after the ban went into effect, but usage has since bounced
back. Hear NPR's Bob Edwards and New York Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, who

In TheFeature, I have a piece about a Silicon Valley startup that's
working on a technology that allows people to control a mobile device
using brainwave sensing.
One of the intriguing possibilities for NeuroSky's
technology is a sleep detector. If you were driving a car and started
to fall asleep, the system could sound an alarm and wake you up.
NeuroSky is working with partners, most notably China's Ziyitong
Technology to develop a sleep-detector as well as systems for gaming
and Attention Deficit Disorder.
