Kid Rock To Play
Bush Inauguration ... The Bush Twins have invited
Kid
Rock to play their inauguration bash after their father is sworn
in to a second term. Rock also played the Republican National
Convention. This is a guy who stuck his head through an American flag
at the Superbowl and has lyrics that say all women are whores and
extol drug and alcohol abuse. (The link has actual lyrics from Rock,
so if you are offended by cursing don't follow it.)

Why
Does Archbishop Desmond Tutu Hate Our Christian Moral Values? In
an interview with MSNBC, the nobel prize winner slams George Bush.
"I had naively believed all these many years that Americans
genuinely believed in freedom of speech. [But I] discovered there that
when you made an utterance that was remotely contrary to what the
White House was saying, then they attacked you. For a South African
the déjà vu was frightening. They behaved exactly the same
way that used to happen here [during apartheid]—vilifying those who
are putting forward a slightly different view."

Post-Election Thought: Democrats should
have picked someone from business
Post-Election Thought: Democrats should
have picked someone from business
12/17/2004 06:36 PMDespite widespread dissatisfaction with George W. Bush the
Democrats managed to lose the 2004 election. The U.S. has a
population growth rate of 0.92% (source: CIA
Factbook) and our population is forecast to reach 450 million by
mid-century. Thus economic (GDP) growth and job creation
are essential if Americans are to enjoy a constant or rising standard
of living. Bush and Cheney weren't our most successful business
managers but they at least did work in the business world, attempting
to produce economic growth and jobs. The Democrats picked
challengers who spent their entire lives working for the government or
suing medical doctors for causing cerebral palsy. These are
activities that may redistribute the pie but won't grow it.
Edwards might have been a particular weakness on this score because of
the studies showing that lawyers reduce GDP.
Does anyone know of a governor or national Democratic politician
who previously had a successful career in business?

Post-Election Thought: Kerry-voters will
be happier than if Kerry had won
12/17/2004 06:36 PMPeople in Cambridge and Berkeley should be happier for the next
four years than if Kerry had won because whenever anything bad happens
they can blame George W. Contrast with Nice Guy Jimmy Carter's
administration. Things were going horribly for
Americans with 18% inflation, high
unemployment, our embassy staff taken hostage by Iranians,
and the Soviets crushing our Muslim allies in Afghanistan.
Amidst all of this depressing news there was seemingly no one to blame
and therefore people could only get depressed. I've met quite a
few Cantabrigians who seem to have enjoyed their anger at W. for the
last four years. For most people it would appear that anger
is preferable to despair.

Executive Over-reaching Slapped Down
Executive Over-reaching Slapped Down
08/13/2004 05:39 PMIn February I
was deeply uneasy about San Francisco Mayor Gavin
Newsom's unilateral move to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. I
believe gay marriage should be legal, but that Newsom's action was an
example of executive arrogance.
So I have mixed feelings today about the California Supreme Court's
decision
to overrule Newsom (SF Chronicle), because his
instinct was right even if his tactics were not.

The Moral Values Party With thousands of
Republicans set to invade the city this summer, high-priced escorts
and strippers are preparing for one grand old party.
Agencies are flying in extra call girls from around the globe to meet
the expected demand during the Aug. 30-Sept. 2 gathering at Madison
Square Garden.
"We have girls from London, Seattle, California, all coming in
for that week," said a madam at a Manhattan escort service.
"It's the week everyone wants to work."
"It's going to be big," agreed one operator at a midtown
escort service.
Now that's what I call moral clarity!!

Blowback: The Cost And Consequences of
American Empire plus War And Conflict In
The Post-Cold War, Post-9/11 Era

Johnson is an provocative proponent of the
American Empire
theory, indeed. Here are excerpts from his
Blow Back: The Cost
And Consequences of American EmpireI heard Johnson
interviewed on Episode II,
War And Conflict In The Post-Cold War,
Post-9/11 Era of
The Whole Wide World
The Cold War and its central conflict - the physical and
ideological battles between the United States, the Soviet Union and
their proxy states - imposed a certain logic and consistency on the
world. Take that away and add the bloody wars in the Balkans, Africa
and the Middle East in the ‘90s as well as the terror attacks and
warnings of more recent times and you get a very confused picture of a
world at war. Is this breaking storm in Iraq about oil, democracy,
freedom, empire, culture, water, diamonds, modernizing Islam or nation
building in the Middle East? Some, one or all of these
things? It was an excellent program and well worth your
listen, either by RA now or mp3 later.

radio) Would all moral thugs please stand up.
