4D Inc. has released an update to WebSTAR V to fix a security problem discovered with Macs whose hard drives have been formatted using the Macintosh Extended Hierarchical File System (HFS+) -- the standard volume format for Mac OS X. The update prevents the WebSTAR V Web server software from being used to retrieve hidden file contents from within Web site folders.

4D Inc. on Thursday released a free update to 4D WebSTAR V, the company's Internet server suite. The new version, 5.3.3, offers enhanced spam filtering with IP address whitelisting and the ability to filter messages pre-tagged with SpamAssassin headers. The new version also enables 4D Mail users to change their passwords for WebMail Pro, and includes other improvements to the Web, mail and FTP servers. Shareware developer Michael Tsai updated SpamSieve on Monday providing minor bug fixes and enhancements to the application. Among the changes in SpamSieve 2.2.1, Tsai added the ability for SpamSieve to show the count of new good messages in DragThing 5.3 and later, if you install an integration script. Tsai notes that this script will be built into future versions of DragThing. SpamSieve requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later and costs US$25 to purchase. A demo version is available from the Web site.

The new version of the company's e-mail client features several bug fixes, including problems with contextual filing to IMAP mailboxes with children and the handling of unusual local folders, among other issues. Eudora 6.1.1, which requires Mac OS X v10.0 or higher, is US$49.95 for new users or those who purchased a registration code more than 24 months ago, if you want to use it in Paid mode. Upgrades from version 6.0 or 6.1 are free if purchased within the last 12 months or $39.95 if purchased before then. Paid mode also includes 12 months of free upgrades and technical support. The free version of Eudora 6.1 comes in two flavors: sponsored and light modes. Script Software on Monday released an update to its clipboard manager software CopyPaste, bringing the current version to 2.0.1. The update contains several new features including the ability to "replace with copied style," which applies the style of the last copied text item to the replaced text. Bug fixes in the new version include the automatic saving of clipboards which failed to save the first clip in the Clip Recorder and a crash on systems earlier that 10.2.6 is fixed.
