glued to the Tour de France blog and TiVo'd
race day episodes from OLN for the next three weeks.
It looks like the changes in the tour this year are going to make
things tough for everyone involved, leveling the playing field and
maybe even favoring the mountain climbers. I would love to see Lance
win this year, I believe unless something drastic happens, even though
he may not be the strongest physically, he's the strongest mentally
and will push himself on top. At 32, it's likely this is Lance's last
year or two that he'll even have a chance at winning, and I hope he
does it.
I think Hamilton, Ullrich, and Mayo are going to give him a run for
his money though.

Advertising
Standards Agency (ASA) have asked Wanadoo, a UK ISP, to tone down
its broadband adverts. The adverts made use of the phrase "full
speed" in relation to their 512k broadband service. The
implication being that the company was offering the fastest broadband
service in the UK.
Clearly, the argument centered arround what exactly is high-speed, and
what is not. The compaint, lodged by competitors
BT and
Telewest, raised the point that the Wanadoo
service of 512k broadband was 1/2 and even a 1/6 speed of the service
offered by the two respective companies.
The ASA upholding the compaint will hopefully lead to more responsible
advertising from UK ISP's; boasts of high-speed services need to be
justified by figures in adverts so as to not confuse consumers. 512k
connections are nolonger the fastest offering on the market, and thus
ISP's cannot boast to this effect.
Wanadoo have undertaken a massive advertising campaign in the UK after
purchasing Freeserve from Dixons.

It was a long, long weekend in spite of not much drinking or
partying, but included an unexpected houseguest from the US and I'm
still trying to recover. I used to be young and spontaneous and now
I'm just old and cranky when the rituals that get me through the day
are disturbed. In an attempt to be hostess to the houseguest who
travelled 4,000 miles where others failed, I finally managed to see
the somewhat legendary expat junk food store in the lower level of
Kämp Galleria and I am now convinced that I am, in fact, in the wrong
line of work judging by the prices. I should open a shop called "Pimp
My Crack" in Hakaniemi filled with crap from the US and the UK or
maybe a Krispy Kreme store. The first one is always free...

Here's one phone we didn't get in the states you
can be happy about. Apparently the Siemens M65 is being recalled in
Europe due to the fact it plays a potentially ear-damaging tone as it
shuts off due to a low battery, even if you're in the middle of a
call.
At least that's what I'm told this article says. I can't read
German and Babelfish doesn't believe me when I tell it that commas can
exist in URLs. (Thanks, Thorsten!)

A Japanese con artist science man named
Hideto Tomabechi has claimed to have developed the world's first phone
ring tone that increases the size of women's breasts.
"Most
would think it's a lie, but the techniques involved in the process
have been known for some time and are the result of research I carried
out in the '80s and '90s," Tomabechi tells Shukan Gendai. "I use
sounds that make the brain and body move unconsciously. It's a
technique involving subliminal effects."
The ring tone, or 'chakumero,' can be downloaded as part of a
package that costs ¥300 a month.
