Spymac + iStockphoto = Free iPod photo
Spymac + iStockphoto = Free iPod photo
03/19/2005 03:26 AMSpymac has teamed up with the stock photography double agents over at
iStockphoto to give all registered Spymac members the chance to win a
brand spanking new 60 GB iPod photo! All you have to do to enter is
create the godfather of all posters for SpyStock between March 18 and
April 18, 2005.
What is SpyStock? We have no idea, so that's why we need you to help
us out. The only information we have on SpyStock is that it's
centered around Spymac and iStockphoto. The rest is up to you my
friends. To help you on your artistic journey, the kind folks at
iStockphoto have supplied all participating members with eight top
notch images from their massive stock photography database. To access
these fine images, you'll need to visit the Spymac SpyStock gallery.
Once you've checked the images out, you're free to use as many as you
wish in your SpyStock masterpiece. To make things even more
interesting, you must use at least two of the iStockphoto-provided
images in your composition. Did I mention that the winner gets a
shiny new 60 GB iPod photo from the stock photography ninjas at
iStockphoto?
To recap then, the official rules are as follows:
1. The contest begins on March 18, 2005 and closes on April 18, 2005
2. The theme of the poster must be that of SpyStock
3. Aspects of both Spymac and iStockphoto must be included in the
poster
4. A minimum of two images from those provided by iStockphoto for the
SpyStock contest must be used in the composition of the poster
5. All entries must be upload to the official SpyStock Entries gallery
6. Multiple entries are allowed
7. You must be a registered member of Spymac to participate
8. The contest winner will receive a 60 GB Apple iPod photo
compliments of iStockphoto
9. All contest judging will be completed by the staff members of
iStockphoto
So, if to you, SpyStock is an event where the members of Spymac unite
to sing folk songs at a rodeo with guitars made of Lego while snapping
photographs on invisible stilts, doctor up a poster conveying that
message. Remember, aside from the outlined aspects that must be
included, SpyStock is whatever you want it to be. So get out your
crayons, thinking caps, G5s, rocket launchers, whatever works best for
you, and send us your smoking hot entries (luke-warm entries will also
be considered). Good luck to all who enter!
Entries can be uploaded here.

It looks like the end-of-year round-ups are upon
us—it is the end of year, I guess—and Laptop Magazine has
their "Gear of the Year" up, with some no brainers I think we'll be
seeing a lot of this week, including the Motorola V3 Razr and the JVC
Everio camcorder (something I've seen a lot of people lusting over,
but not actually purchasing). They're also running a 'Trade your
demographic information for a chance to win a prize' contest, where
they're giving away an iPod Photo.
You're just a number anyway—might as well get some loot.

First, I want to thank you all for being
incredibly unfunny. I used to feel badly about getting paid to write
dick jokes, but you have all shown me what an elusive skill it truly
is. More specific thanks to the hundreds of you who established that
old computers look like refrigerators, Windows sucks, three men in an
office will invariable have hot, brown-suited sex, and that Douglas
Adams once wrote a paragraph featuring the number "42."
I braved permanently crippling my ability to "fun" to bring you
these highlights:
• New from Ikea - The Vacüm line of office
furniture!
• While still fighting time restrictions, the Half-Life 2
code staff works diligently on their state of the art, completely
secure vacuum computers.
• 10 PRINT "I HATE YELLOW" 20 GOTO 10

Gmail Contest: Everyone's A Winner

So I'm over a week late, because, uhm ...
but I have good news. Everyone who entered the Gmail contest is a
winner! I still only have three invites on that account, but I'll make
you a deal: for those of you who have already entered, I'll continue
to push out invites as I get them (on the gizmodo@ account and a
couple others) until everyone gets the hook up. I'm sorry I'm so
slack, but I think that's a fair trade. The only thing I would ask is
that if you get any spare invites, let me know on the gizmodo@ account
so I can pass them on to those in need. We'll get this whole damn
battlestation on Gmail if it's the last thing we do!
There are of ton of you who entered, though, so please be patient.
I'll try to rustle up extra invites as fast as I can.
There were a couple of exceptional entries, though, and they will
be getting the first invites, including these two fabulous Photoshop
jobs that put Gizmodo right in my favorite place on 42nd and Broadway
in the whole world, Times Square.
Congratulations Jonathon Robinson and Isaac Epp, and thanks to
everybody who entered!

Update: I absolutely want to have each and every one of you
inside of me. You all, within 15 minutes, provided enough Gmail
invites to cover every, single entry. Just awesome, thanks! (You can
stop sending invites now).

I'd like to announce the
winner of last Friday's Niveus PC Remote Control contest, Eric
Antonow. So I did.
Not only did he get the most entries correct (although there were
about five or six others that came very close), he took such wild
stabs at accuracy on the ones he missed that I just had to give it to
him ("42. 1/2" Plywood, GS1 Pine, probably Canadian from the knots"
was a personal favorite).
Perhaps someday I'll give you all the correct answers, but not
today (I may want to try this contest again soon, and surely some of
the items will reappear - especially the ones nobody got). Here's a
few hints, though: there were no Lego on the desk; No PalmOS devices;
and the rug you all so generously complimented me on was purchased at
local retailer Dee & Dee for the grand price of one
American Dollar.
I mean, seriously, hand-woven by a Mexican shaman?
