Start of the Season
11/14/2003 01:45 PMIt is believed the decorated Christmas tree originated in 16th century
Germany. In Italy, children place their Christmas letter under their
father's plate. Lucy wants real estate for Christmas in 'A Charlie
Brown Christmas.' Nutcracker figurines originated in Germany in the
1700s. 'Jingle Bells' was originally called 'One Horse Open Sleigh.'
December 25 was chosen for the celebration of Jesus' birth by Pope
Julius I in the 4th century. Just a few random facts from the 'Sounds
of the Seasons' channel on digital cable, which will be on in my
office for the next month and a half. I can't help but love this
stuff! There are a billion religions on this planet, so I'm "forced"
to celebrate the pop culture aspect of these winter holidays - so as
not to offend anybody. Don't be a Grinch! My stocking will be full
this year, and I can't wait....

iTunes and musical taste
11/12/2003 01:02 PMWired is running a tongue-in-cheek article about the ability of iTunes
users to share their playlists. "Thanks to the ability of Apple's
iTunes to share music collections over local networks, it is now
possible to judge someone's taste in music -- or lack of it -- in a
way that previously required a certain level of intimacy," the article
states. It further notes that iTunes users are starting to realize
that their playlists can affect the social image they project, and...

Flu Season! Wabbit Season!
12/02/2003 01:03 AMEverybody in southern California seems to be falling ill, so I'm sure
it won't be too long before I'm KO'ed as well. Perhaps if I keep
enough green "liquid death" (read: NyQuil) coursing through my veins,
the bugs will remain at bay? Taste is the first thing to go when I get
sick - which would explain my sense of humor as of late. I've moved my
home office mini-television into the bedroom in preparation for the
inevitable. Even if I don't become the next witless victim, I'll be
able to fall asleep to Drew Carey reruns and wake up to Battlestar
Girlactica promos. With red hot Wi-Fi, I'm also able to stay connected
while under the covers. Adventure Elf, here I come!...

Xeni Jardin:

BoingBoing reader
Alex points to this
purportedly XXX image (organic teabagging?) ripped from the Kama
Fruitra, and says, "This Ananova story contains images of Maoam fruit
wrappers which appear to show fruit in sexual positions. A Catholic
college has complained. What is interesting is that Haribo doesn't
seem to have denied this interpretation, calling the packaging 'very
racy,' and saying, 'The new wrapping is certainly fruitier than the
old. But we have not had any other complaints. In fact until now the
feedback has all been positive."

website with barely legal hothothot fruity porn wrapper pics.
Update: BoingBoing reader ix says, "The reader quoted in your post
says, A Catholic college has complained. That's not quite
right. It seems, as this site says, that it
has been a joke by graduates (abiturienten) of a catholic school (jesuitenkolleg
zu sankt blasien - really, more a highschool than a college) back
in March. Not really hot this story, but a German magazine made it a
story again a couple of day ago (more on that here: Link)."
MuVo2 FM Joins Fruit Brigade
MuVo2 FM Joins Fruit Brigade
09/01/2004 12:01 PMThe iPod mini colors strike again, this time
bringing down Creative's MuVo2, now available in five, easy-to-digest
pastels. Well, and black. And it's possible white isn't
technically a pastel, but still, these are clearly iPod
inspired. The new MuVo2 version also will have a 5GB hard drive,
instead of the previous 4GB version, and will now include a built-in
FM receiver.
So far they're Japan only, going for around $250. The last MuVo2,
if you'll remember, was almost universally adopted so that it could be
broken open and its 4GB Microdrive scavenged for use in digital
cameras. I would bet there is something - the lack of a proper Compact
Flash interface, for instance - in these new models that will prevent
that, but until an intrepid photographer hammers a new one open, we'll
just have to wait and see. (Thanks, Jon!)

BT's Project Bluephone About to Bear
Fruit
04/06/2005 09:10 AMZDNet UK is reporting that British Telecom's 'Bluephone' is almost
ready to launch. The project aims to create a hybrid Bluetooth/GSM
phone that can make calls using a landline when at home (using
Bluetooth for cordless connection) but can make cellular calls when
out of the house. Useful, perhaps, but not too
useful—it's likely calls won't be able to seamlessly transfer
from network to network.
BT has also announced the development of a newer version of the
Bluephone that supports Wi-Fi, with a WiMax version possibly to launch
even further down the line.
