Technology
06/24/2004 02:55 AM
Majorium™, pioneer in the development of Integrated Multicast Learning™ technology, challenges the theory that corporate training must be expensive to produce results with the introduction of its innovative long-distance blended learning technology. Majorium™ has learned to harness cheap technology to profitably deliver corporate training for less than $100 per participant. It is able to do this without sacrificing the overall quality and the results it produces. The technology pioneered by Majorium™ is called Integrated Multicast Learning™. It provides companies with dramatic increases in overall quality and results. This favorably compares with more costly competitive corporate training. [PRWEB Jun 24, 2004]

Korea Requires Camera Phone To Add
Shutter Sound
11/11/2003 12:53 PM
They're not the only ones, but the latest to jump on the "shutter noise" solution to the "camera phone problem" is South Korea. Starting next year, they're going to require new camera phones to include a loud clicking sound when someone takes a picture, mimicking an analog camera. The only purpose for such a noise, of course, is to alert people around you that you're taking a picture. In some ways, this seems silly, and down the road people will look back on this and find it an amusing historical example of people over reacting to new technology.

Speed up Firefox: This hack has been floating around quite a bit in the last week — I've read about it in four different places now. I did it, but didn't notice much of a speed increase. Anyone else?

This tip will speed up your Firefox significantly, but will mainly work for broadband users. To achieve this speed increase you need to alter certain settings of Firefox to speed up page requests and the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

InFocus DepthQ: Cheap 3D Projection

InFocus DepthQ: Cheap 3D Projection 04/15/2005 09:59 AM

depthq.jpgInFocus and Lightspeed Design Group are acnnouncing the InFocus DepthQ, an affordable 3D DLP projector that looks to me like a tweaked X2. It's not a solution for everyone—the 3D format are limited to "VESA VGA, page flip, stereo 3D format," and it requires the wearing of LCD shutter glasses—but it looks like many NVIDIA cards will support it, as well as some games (I'm not sure how much of the load is lifted by the video card driver and how much, if any, is done by the game). Still, it's cheap, at around $3,500, and uses solid Infocus technology. The only thing I can't determine is if it comes with a pair of shutter glasses or not (it looks like it doesn't).

More Trouble With Red Light And Speed
Camera

More Trouble With Red Light And Speed
Camera
11/04/2003 03:39 PM
Bob Dole writes "Red light and speed camera supporters always claim that the camera never lies. These news items suggest otherwise. An Australian woman lost her license because a speed camera showed she was driving 104 MPH. The problem? Her nearly 30 year old Datsun's top speed is only 73MPH. Likewise, a Raleigh woman found herself trying to fight a camera ticket sent from a city she has never visited. Back down under, the police escorted hundreds of Aussie motorcyclists into a speed camera trap as they drove to an event organized by the police. Police collect $12,000. In each case, the use of machine enforcement causes the burden of proof to be placed on the innocent. They're each forced to fight city hall every time the camera is wrong (which is more than the proponents admit). The revolt against this setup grows in the UK with speed camera operators calling in sick because of the "stress" caused by angry motorists." This seems to be getting a lot of attention lately. We've also had another submission as frankiejr writes "Seems as though a woman in South Wales was clocked at 480mph by a speed camera and was promptly issued a ticket. Funniest part about it is that it was a really cheap car that can barely reach 50mph." Seems like this is the topic of the season.

08/23/2004 08:51 AM
Canon U.S.A. Inc. has introduced its new 7.1-megapixel PowerShot G6 digital camera. The new US$699 camera is expected to be released in September features a 2.0-inch LCD monitor that can be positioned 270 degrees, a 4x optical zoom with a 35-140mm 35mm equivalent lens. It also sports faster start-up time, simultaneous RAW and JPEG recording, and a 640x480 movie mode. Zooming from wide to telephoto has been shortened by 30 percent compared to the PowerShot G5, and auto focus speed has also been increased by up to 55 percent.

binoculars_instrep.jpg imageSomeday someone is going to get one of these digital camera/binocular hybrids right and have a hit product on their hands, but manufacturers' continual insistance to make the camera lens seperate from the binoculars really futzes up what could otherwise be a fantastic product. Take these Bushnell Instant Replay binocs, for instance, as reviewed by KC's David Twiddy. It's not a cheapo device - Bushnell is a major binocular brand - but it still doesn't take images of what you're actually seeing through the binoculars (and has a crappy shutter speed, too, it sounds like), so no matter how many flip-up LCD screens and Compact Flash slots it has, it's still fundamentally flawed. (Thanks, JP!)
