With some affected systems already out of their standard one-year warranty period, Apple on Friday posted details of its 15-inch PowerBook G4 Display Repair Extension Program, which offers a fix for certain Titanium and Aluminum 15-inch PowerBook G4's that show faint white spots on the screen. The worldwide program does not extend the warranty of these PowerBooks, but it covers replacement of LCD panels that show the spots; Apple covers the cost of the repairs and shipping charges, if applicable. Apple will also reimburse PowerBook owners who have already paid for eligible repairs.

Spotty shortages abound for Apple Computer Inc.'s wildly popular iPod digital music players amid Wall Street expectations for a doubling in sales of the devices in the holiday quarter, analysts said on Wednesday. "I was at an Apple store just yesterday and the place was packed with people looking at iPods and iPod accessories," said Susan Kevorkian, an analyst at IDC in San Mateo, California.

"There's no question that iPods are an extremely hot item this holiday season." Some financial analysts have forecast that Apple will sell 4 million of the market-leading devices in the current quarter, double the number it sold in the previous period, when they accounted for 23 percent of the Cupertino, California-based company's overall revenue.

Studio Displays either
05/06/2004 03:07 AM
Michael says, "Here's another petition asking Apple to acknowledge a widespread manufacturing defect. This one concerns the problem with Apple's 17-inch Studio Displays that causes the top or bottom half to go dim, and the power light to blink incessantly. There is an ongoing thread on Apple's Discussion Board that currently has 371 replies, with 172 unique user names reporting the problem. It had 378 on Tuesday, but 8 of them, including one of mine, have since been deleted by Apple. I have spoken to Apple's Customer Relations regarding the issue, and they refuse to acknowledge it as a known problem. A flat-rate out-of-warranty repair is $458.95. A new display is $699."
