A picture-perfect Christmas

A picture-perfect Christmas 12/26/2004 12:41 PM
Picture yesterday evening: It's dark, all the noisy kids have gone to bed. We are lying on the bed, close to each other, and share the iPod. We play disgustingly romantic music, kiss, and just sense the warmth of each other in the quiet house.

Then she suddenly perks up: "Darling! I forgot to tell you! My poo was this long and completely solid!" she says, and shows with her fingers.

How I love that woman...

(As a side note, today I completely understand her happiness: I have the same stomach flu now (except a bit worse), and I have trouble going to the toilet because I don't know which end is going to discharge first - and which way I should sit on the john. Yay. I long for the days of solid poo.)

The handwriting is on the wall that the era of low interest rate loans is about to give way to a series of interest rate hikes. The benchmark interest rate moved up by one quarter percent for the first time in four years as the Federal Reserve upped the cost of overnight loans to financial institutions. Although the blow of further rate increases is being cushioned by the language of a “measured” pace for these increases, investors and potential home owners can only hope for comparative low rates for only a few more months. Is the Suspense Killing you?

Is the Suspense Killing you? 12/24/2004 12:46 PM

My phone has rang about 20 times today from my suspense riddled Podcast from yesterday. I appreciate all of the calls but sorry folks I can't say a word at this point as to what's up. Actually I have not been told I can't say anything but I have put my own gag order into place. Their are some of you I have known for years and I understand your feelings were hurt when I said sorry not commenting yet.

Regardless I will give you all the full story when the timing is right. I apologize for not spending as much time posting here as this project has taken up a considerable amount of my time. The holiday activities haven't helped either.

Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Bridge

Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Bridge 06/17/2005 07:13 PM

For most graphic artists, Adobe's applications are their bread and butter. Adobe Creative Suite 2 recently hit the streets, but is it worth paying the price to upgrade? We have a comprehensive look at Photoshop CS2 along with Bridge, an image browser which "connects" the Creative Suite 2 applications.

In Photoshop 7, Adobe added a file browser to Photoshop and let it chill for two versions seeing if it would get better with age (it didn't). It was a good idea but weird in Photoshop, a really document-centric program. Now, they've taken it out of Photoshop, made it an independent program to act as a connector between apps much like say, a concrete passageway or a road above water.

It makes a lot more sense this way since it was really out of place as a floating window inside the Photoshop interface. Adobe has added a favorites and collections pane in addition to the basic file system browsing, chocked it full of features to interact with other Adobe apps and added an interactive thumbnail zoom that works much like iPhoto's.

Of course, there are plenty of other apps on both Windows and Mac OS X that perform the same function (GraphicConverter represent!). Is the combination of some spiffy new features in Photoshop CS2 and the new Bridge enough to make an upgrade worthwhile? There's only one way to find out...

A perfect day

A perfect day 03/11/2003 01:59 PM
An extremely rare personal entry. Politics and the state of the economy were getting me down, and the kid was out of school, so we decided to take the day off. I spent most of today on a gorgeous hike in Wildcat Canyon, only 20 minutes away by car from my house. Up and down a thousand feet a couple of times on a six mile loop trail, with beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Tamalpais, Carquinez Straits, and the San Pablo reservoir, as well as not so beautiful views of the Richmond refineries. The plum and cherry trees on the approaches were blossoming, and the hillsides were Irish green and dotted with orange California poppies. Hawks were floating over the hills, trying to catch the ground squirrels scurrying from burrow to burrow. The kid got to get up close to cows starting to shed their winter coats, and had the joy of taking a short cut all by himself (hopefully not noticing dad keeping an eye on him from the rear quarter). It was beautiful, and just what my soul needed. A perfect spring day, a perfect way to spend a day. This is why I live in the Bay Area, and put up with the incredibly expensive housing, jammed traffic, and lousy public schools. Then spent the evening blogging hour(s) playing with my weblogs. Read some great stories at the preacher's place. Spiffied up my linklog and turned it into its own separate weblog, The Midnight Blog. Added Meg's cool yellow background for links. Played with the stylesheets, messed things up and backed out of my changes. Bought a new domain name (more on that later). Didn't check my email, which I am behind on. Tried not to read any political news (failed). Except for the latter, and for the hour the day is ending at, a perfect day.
