Would you be pissed if it took 3 months to order a Microsoft Product

Would you be pissed if it took 3 months
to order a Microsoft Product
09/23/2004 04:59 AM

How would you like something you ordered canceled a half dozen times. The story I am linking to is not that uncommon and Microsoft is not the only company that has automated to the point that purchases get canceled for the stupidest reasons. Humans are not that much better and those manning the sales phone lines are usually underpaid and overworked. Read the saga this poor fellow went thru. [Dots and Dashes]

The Eye Q Games website is a little behind schedule. Only by a few hours. It will probably take me until tomorrow to iron this last problem out. I've been staring at code all day, for almost 12 hours now. All the Unit Tests in the world aren't going to help this one. The webserver keeps telling me that my prepared SQL statement in my Datamanagement Class is not providing the necessary fields. One I know the field is there. Two, the unit tests work. But when I run it through an ASPX file, it breaks. Hmmph. I hope I don't have to go through the hassle of Unit Testing the Web Pages too. Yecch.

Gore Vidal releases new book about the founding fathers, has some words for the current administration. Vidal: But mostly we find the sort of corruption Franklin predicted. Ours is a totally corrupt society. The presidency is for sale. Whoever raises the most money to buy TV time will probably be the next president. This is corruption on a major scale. Enron was an eye-opener to naive lovers of modern capitalism. Our accounting brotherhood, in its entirety, turned out to be corrupt, on the take. With the government absolutely colluding with them and not giving a damn. Bush’s friend, old Kenny Lay, is still at large and could just as well start some new company tomorrow. If he hasn’t already. No one is punished for squandering the people’s money and their pension funds and for wrecking the economy. So the corruption predicted by Franklin bears its terrible fruit. No one wants to do anything about it. It’s not even a campaign issue. Once you have a business community that is so corrupt in a society whose business is business, then what you have is, indeed, despotism. It is the sort of authoritarian rule that the Bush people have given us.

Rival says Microsoft unready to obey

Rival says Microsoft unready to obey
European order
03/23/2005 08:49 PM
Microsoft is failing to comply with a European Commission order to sell an unbundled version of its Windows operating system, competitors that were asked to examine the program said on Tuesday.

A year ago, Mario Monti, then the European commissioner for competition, ordered Microsoft to sell a second version of Windows in Europe that has its music and video-playing program, Media Player, stripped out. The order was intended to restore competition. The second version, installed with a rival alternative to Media Player, is supposed to be introduced in the next few weeks.

But David R. Stewart, deputy general counsel for RealNetworks, said Tuesday that Microsoft was still not ready to comply with the European ruling. RealNetworks, of Seattle, which makes rival software, has the most to gain from enforcement of the order. The commission has yet to decide whether Microsoft's proposal for introducing the unbundled version of Windows meets its requirements. Stewart contended that "the version of Windows Microsoft is proposing to sell has technical problems that render it less functional than the existing version of Windows."

This time, I'm pissed off 08/07/2004 08:35 AM
Ok, answer me this: What kind of a dim-witted fuck one has to be to rewrite the soundtrack of "Animal House"? Get rid of all the cool 60's music and replace them with completely meaningless, forgettable, and BAD 80s rock music? Who could forget the "Wonderful World" playing in the background of the cafeteria scene? Apparently the mush-for-brains who thought it would be cool to create some "new music" for it, so that "it becomes better".

Let me give you a free hint (if you're reading this, you smelly rodent): Old movies don't become better if you change them. Movies are not about the mechanic combination of moving pictures, dialogue and soundtrack; their meaning is created within the people, as an aggregate of memories, moods, people you were with, feelings that you felt, and other soft things like those. You don't retroactively mess with them.

Also, the people who think that E.T. becomes better by replacing the guns with walkie-talkies, or the word "terrorist" with the word "hippie", please do shove your head up your neighbour's ass and suffocate painfully. Your neighbour might even like it.

Angry now. Bloody fucking angry.

(For Finns: Don't buy the DVD that's currently on sale in many places (at least Stockmann's). Unless you wanna ruin your memories.)

No real surprise that Apple pulled a Microsoft stunt in making an announcement that will probably cause a competitor to go belly up. You will have to check out the Konfabulator website. After you do that then you have to take a look at the posters Apple had hung up that suggested Microsoft would be chasing Apple. Seems Apple is chasing Konfabulator. Bunch of hypocrites if you ask me.

Seems Japanese TV Viewers are complaining about DRM restrictions. Being they are not used to having to deal with such harsh copy / copyright restrictions they have every right to complain they pay for their programming as most of us do. I think the backlash will be the loudest in the United States when the heavy hand of the MPAA and RIAA start affecting peoples fair use rights. [Slashdot]

He got his point across, however futile it might be in the end -- while his current unlimited plan costs only $6.29 a month, after the rate hike the same amount of messaging would cost more than $10,000.
