Wendy's Says No Wi-Fi for Now
Wendy's Says No Wi-Fi for Now
04/25/2004 07:27 PMInvestor's Business Daily notes that Wendy's may be challenging Burger
King for the No. 2 fast food slot, but the CEO isn't interested in
Wi-Fi: This perhaps puts Wendy's out of the near-term running for the
next major QSR (quick-service restaurant) that adds Wi-Fi. But the CEO
is dismissive: At lunchtime, the idea is table turns and you don't
want people staying at their tables surfing. If there's a way to do
that in the afternoons only, we will., he says. However, he's not
looking at his own numbers well enough. The article notes that 65
percent of Wendy's business is drive-through, and a significant
fraction of its counter business is most likely take-away as well. The
idea of Wi-Fi is that it's a tool to load the restaurants during
off-times. Businesspeople aren't going to come in and spend two hours
over lunch trying to get work done, but they might spend money on food
and Wi-Fi. A lack of seating rarely discourage the fast-food patron;
they take it to go, if they have to, but they don't find another
restaurant....

Woman finds finger in Wendy's chili
Woman finds finger in Wendy's chili
03/24/2005 12:05 AMDavid Pescovitz:
No, it's not an urban legend. Yesterday, a woman at a Wendy's in Santa
Clara, California put a spoonful of chili in her mouth, paused, and
spit out a human fingertip. From the San Francisco Chronicle:
Santa Clara County Health Officer Dr. Martin Fenstersheib
said today the woman was horrified "due to the unpleasant sensation of
having this (object) in her mouth...."
The restaurant at 1405 Monterey Highway was temporarily closed
Tuesday night to allow health officials to impound the remaining
chili, which was prepared on site, using a variety of ingredients.
Health officials also seized all of the restaurant's remaining stock
of ingredients, which will be inspected, and traced back to their
manufacturer.
Since all of the workers at the restaurant were in possession "of all
10 of their fingers," health inspectors assume the finger likely
entered the food chain as a result of the manufacturing process,
according to county Environmental Resources Director Ben Gale.

07/06/2004 01:55 AMAccording to this Weblog, there are concerns that installing the .NET

is only fair to warn others to be careful in case they are also
considering the upgrade.

you do have to worry about which brand and where it's made. What's
worse is that some are finicky about CD-RW media. This is supposed to
be easier?

Woes of Big Holidays
Woes of Big Holidays
12/27/2004 08:25 AM
Egad. One down, one more to go. I hate big holidays
because the big ones
are actually three in one: Blah Eve, Blah itself, and After-Blah
Sales Day.
On Blah Eve, my wife expects me to pay attention to her. That
means lots of
kisses and lip service. I wonder if the word Eve being the
name of the first
gal had something to do with this.
On the Blah Day, my wife expects me to pay attention to the
family. In modern
terms, this means doing far more TV watching than my usual 30
minutes a day.
The worst part is that TV programming really sucks on such
days. Radio is even
worse.
On the After-Blah Sales Day, my wife expects me to be
invisible. Actually she
is the one that does the disappearing act from dawn til dusk.
If I happen to
get up too early, I get the deathray look. This morning, I
got up just as she
was putting on her shoes to go out shopping. Oops.

Congestion Woes
10/29/2003 01:39 PMConcerns around the effects that too many users may have on Wi-Fi
networks seems to be the hot topic these days: This writer suggests a
somewhat unclear idea revolving around a "congestion charge" and
technology that will turn off clients that aren't being used. I just
don't think congestion is going to be that huge of a problem. It will
be in certain circumstances like at trade shows and possibly on a busy
street where every shop offers Wi-Fi. But otherwise I just don't
expect it to be debilitating....
