NVIDIA Continues to Demonstrate 64-Bit
Leadership
07/29/2004 09:42 AMNVIDIA Corporation, the worldwide leader in visual processing
solutions, today announced availability of a new 64-bit demonstration
for NVIDIA nForce™3- and AMD Athlon™ 64 processor-based PCs and
notebooks. The highly-graphical 3D demo portrays a liquid-like dancer
who moves and grooves in a surreal disco world, employing specialized
64-bit instructions that respond to real-time user intervention and
music MP3s.
The 3D dancer was originally created as a 32-bit technology
demonstration. NVIDIA ported the software code to demonstrate the
increased performance offered by the advanced 64-bit processing
architecture of the AMD Athlon 64 processor. Internal tests by NVIDIA
show the new version outperforms the 32-bit version by more than 27
percent in comparable computing environments. Tests were conducted
using an NVIDIA nForce3-based motherboard, an AMD Athlon 64 processor,
an NVIDIA GeForce™ 6800 GT graphics processing unit, and Microsoft®
Windows® XP 64-bit v.1195.
“NVIDIA and AMD have a shared vision: to promote immersive,
experiential, and compelling graphics that were not possible with
32-bit memory limitations,” said Marty Seyer, vice president and
general manager, AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit, Computation
Products Group. “The AMD64 platform enables best-in-class performance
and provides computer experiences that were never possible before.
Users who want a more exciting computing experience should definitely
get an AMD Athlon 64 processor-based system.”

04/30/2004 05:53 PMMetal Storm Limited, the
Australian company that developed a pioneering fire-by-wi
re weapons system, will soon be demonstrating a small unmanned
aerial vehicle (UAV) to Department of Defense officials to prove the
technology's potential as part of a remotely controlled weapon. The
UAV being used is the Dragonfly DP-4X helicopter, which was designed
and built by Dragonfly
Pictures Inc (DPI) for use as a remote aerial intelligence
gathering and reconnaissance vehicle, but combined with the light
weight Metal Storm armament, this could become a key component in
future battles.
Our affordable and versatile Dragonfly DP-4X is being prepared for
riskier and more offensive missions to combat many of the new threats
that defy traditional battlefield tactics.
How cool would it be to put a gun on a remote control helicopter!
With a live video feed too!

That being said I am quite happy to see that they are following

lot of other issues at stake and which chip that is demonstrated will

Industry Partners Demonstrate Broad
Support For Network Access Protection
Technology From Microsoft
07/13/2004 03:32 PMIn his keynote today at the Microsoft® Worldwide Partner Conference,
Mike Nash, corporate vice president for Security Business and
Technology Unit at Microsoft Corp., announced support from more than
25 industry partners for its Network Access Protection, an extensible
standards-based technology that will enable users to more securely
access their corporate network. In addition to enhancing the security
for user access, the Network Access Protection technology will provide
a more secure solution designed to reduce the complexity of network
access for IT administrators. Available in an update release
(code-named "R2") of Windows Server (TM) 2003, Network Access
Protection technology will deliver a uniform method for detecting the
"health state" of a client attempting to connect to a network,
restricting the access until compliance to policy is validated and
updating the client to current security policy levels.

Microsoft Interoperability
Microsoft Interoperability
02/05/2005 09:12 PMSeems that Bill and company have a new
strategy.
Join us. Or we'll join you. Or "we like you so much, we'll
interop with you."

The hand writing has been on the wall. Indigo is Microsoft
declaring "we've won". It's the universal connector kit - adpating
any technology to any other. Kim Cameron (the sweetest Microsoft
employee I ever met) has a brilliant strategy for meta-identity
management.
And then of course -
if Spaces.MSN and Microsoft's support of RSS (seemingly
everywhere.)
Why not?
They've won everywhere else. Why not also become the very BEST
open source, open standards company around?

Tales of Interoperability
Tales of Interoperability
03/06/2004 01:49 AMThe Register reports on a story that ran in a magazine called
Computing Which? that details failures to get standard Wi-Fi gear from
different manufacturers to interoperate: The editors tried to set up a
Linksys 802.11g router and a Netgear bridge but couldn't get the two
devices to interact. Eventually one Netgear help desk agent told the
writers the products could be incompatible. It doesn’t appear that the
original story is online so it's hard to know more about this trial.
It sounds as though the aim of the report was to test how easy or
difficult it is to set up wireless networks. The writers concluded
that it's too hard to use. It would be unfortunate if the industry has
a hard time attracting additional users because the products are
inoperable and difficult to use....
