Supybot is a clearly-written Python IRC framework and bot, intended to be both easily extensible and very flexible. Several modules are included by default. Numerous plugins are already written, including Google, Factoids, RSS, Quotes, and Relay. Plugins and their commands achieve greater utility via command nesting, something that no other IRC bot does. The user database is based on "capabilities" rather than obscure flags or arbitrary numeric "userlevels", giving the bot flexibility and fine-grained control (think ACLs vs. standard *nix permissions). Developing your own additions to the bot is simple with the base classes provided; writing a new command for the bot is as simple as writing a function. Unlike many other IRC frameworks, this simplicity is achieved at no cost to generality, which lets new programmers and old programmers alike feel at home in the framework. GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP (IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.

This pre-release is the first release after the major code rewrite that is expected to address all of the legacy problems that could not be solved without changing the protocols and data formats used by GNUnet. Consequently, the code breaks compatibility with all previous versions. The pre-release also lacks a graphical user interface. The pre-release is made in order to bootstrap the network with the new protocols.
