What Would Jesus REALLY Do?
11/03/2003 07:03 PMRemember back during the Republican primary debate in Iowa when the
then-candidates were asked, "What political philosopher or thinker do
you identify with and why?" Well, our now-president was quick to
flaunt his religiosity. He responded, "Christ, because he changed my
heart." Now I know this is old news, and it has already been
established that Christ wasn't actually a political philosopher, but I
think it's still an important issue that needs to be addressed.
Although Christ was not a political philosopher, he had a lot to say
about morality, and morality is almost inseparable from politics.
Throughout his presidency, Bush has left no question that his somewhat
peculiar morality has played an immense role in his policy and
decision making.

04/30/2004 07:45 AMOh, God - "The Jesus Factor"
asks what's behind the president's religious beliefs is a brief
Slate review of a new Frontline documentary (premiering
tonight) that examines President Bush's religious views. It sounds
pretty interesting, if only to get a sense of where he's coming from.
But I was surprised to read a pretty astounding figure buried in the
article.
[O]f the $100 million so far dispensed to faith-based
charities by the Bush administration, not one dollar has gone to a
Jewish or Muslim organization.
What?! I've always been irritated by the use of federal money for
faith-based charities, but to find that it's only going to Christian
charities is even more egregious. Argh!

Three Taiwan Golden Melody Award winners, including a famous singer
and composer, Yue-hsin Chu, and a group of enthusiastic young
Christian musicians have come up with what they call their first
native gospel album- JESUS ROCKS.
JESUS ROCKS is the first Asian album using a Creative Commons license
(a Taiwanese Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike).
The cover text reads: „JESUS ROCKS represents the sprit of
reciprocal sharing. It also conveys the charity of Jesus Christ in
English, Mandarin and dialects of Mandarin. JESUS ROCKS covers diverse
styles, such as rock’n’roll, folk, blues and funk. So it is
suitable for different generations to listen.“

by H. R. Rowlands, who lived in Boston, not far from where Mr. Rosen

said, are iterations of that same idea. "Unfortunately," Mr.
Rosen observed, "none of them actually work."

What would Jesus say about Pete the
Porno Puppet?
05/01/2004 11:49 AMNewsweek's Brian Braiker says,
This is a story i wrote this week about Pete the Porno Puppet, a truly
bizarro PSA campaign that XXXchurch ("the #1 Christian porn site")
launched -- it's an ad designed to convince parents to get rid of
their porn stash so that children aren't exposed to it. The irony is
that the anti-porn ad was filmed by smut peddler Jimmy D. Also, it's
creepy as all getout.
Indeed. When I first ran accross the site a month or two ago, I was
surprised to see they were (without permission) posting excerpts from
an
article<
/a> about Hustler publisher Larry Flynt that I wrote for Wired
News. Seeing your work snipped out of context to promote a
political agenda you're not part of is almost as disturbing as...
um... a talking, evangelical sock puppet that wants your porn.
