New iMac Details
08/15/2004 09:26 PMThink Secret a popular Mac rumor site has claimed to receive the
specifications from sources regarding Apple's upcoming re-designed
iMac. Along with brief description of what this new PC will look
like.
The new iMac will apparently not have an adjustable neck, but instead
will feature an all-in-one design. A design that will be in sync with
its logic board, optical drive, and other components. Think Secret's
sources claim that it will similar to Sony's VAIO W700G. Also saying
that "It's not fair to compare the new iMac to the Sony
model". Adding that the iMac will have sleeker lines and
contours, and knowing Apple it's going to look interesting.
It's reported that the new iMac will offer speeds between 1.6 GHz and
1.8 GHz (using the G5 processor). All models will be able to support
a maximum of up to 2GB of DDR memory, AirPort Extreme-ready, built in
microphone, and built-in stereo speakers. If this rumor is true iMac
fans won’t have wait long for its arrival. As it's already being
reported to be unveiled at the Apple Expo in Paris (August 31,
2004).
Keep in mind that this is still a rumor, but Think Secret has a good
track record of its rumors being true. If that's the case this new
iMac will certainly have an attractive look. After all just about
anything is better than Sony’s design.

ThinkSecret
is reporting the supposed details of Apple's Power Mac, iMac, and eMac
upgrades, presumed to be officially unveiled by the company at the
upcoming NAB conference. There's nothing terribly mind-blowing, mostly
because there is still no confirmation as to whether the top-end Power
Mac G5s (with speeds up to 2.7GHz) will have a dual-core version of
the 970 processor or not.
It also appears that rumors of a Blu-ray compatible SuperDrive were
pie-in-the-sky, although the rumors say dual-layer DVD+R support is
likely. Everything else sounds extremely reasonable, with modest
performance bumps across the line.

07/02/2004 08:20 AM
Apple has announced that new
iMacs are in the pipe, this time using G5 processor and a completely
new redesign. Rumors indicate the new design, which will be unveiled
in September, will shove most of the logic hardware behind the flat
panel display. As usual, we welcome any insight or pictures or stolen
plans from Steve Jobs's nightstand.
And against form, this information comes from Apple themselves, who
made an announcement on their website detailing that the existing
stock of iMacs would not be replenished, and that plans to push out
new units had slipped behind. It's a commendable move, and one Apple
should be applauded for taking. Likely, Apple had planned to announce
the new iMac at WWDC, but was unsure about unit production. MacMinute
adds the tidbit that Jobs may have dropped a clue at WWDC when he used
the search terms "iMac" and "Paris" to demonstrate new search
technology. Apple Expo is scheduled this September in Paris.

Giz
modo had this snapshot of what is reportedly Apple's new iMac G5. It's supposed to
be released next week, but somebody got a sneak peek in an elevator at
Charles DeGaulle Airport. Looks to
be little more than a thick flat panel monitor, with the computer's
guts tucked behind the screen.
I would think that would be an easy build — just use the
basic parts from a laptop unit, wrap it with a spiffy new skin, jam in
a G5 processor and the proper cooling mechanisms, and there you have
it.

Secret says they know
what The Steve
will be unveiling at the January 11 Macworld Expo: a bare bones,
G4-based iMac without a display that will retail for $499.
This new product will be for a Windows user who has experienced the
iPod, the ease of use of the iTunes software, and has played around
with a Mac at an Apple retail store just long enough to know he'd buy
one if it were a little cheaper.
Code name Q88, the machine is said to be very small and designed to
either go underneath a monitor or stand upright, alongside a second
computer. The guys over at MacSlash
are hoping that it will also have a built-in KVM that will allow PC
switchers to run the iMac side-by-side with their existing PC, using
the same keyboard, mouse & monitor. That might be a little much to
hope for, but if the rest is true, that might shake things up a bit,
don't you think?

ungainly as I would expect, but it's still surprising. Is there really
a market for a slow Mac with a big screen? Apple used the introduction

something more
realistic. (But you know someone is going to say, "Why didn't they
compare against the dual 3.2GHz xw8000? It's been out for three
