Disney's Eisner holds out hope for Pixar
deal
06/03/2004 12:24 PMPixar's public announcement that it won't be working with Disney after
the end of its current distribution deal hasn't stopped Disney CEO
Michael Eisner from holding out hope that the two studios can broker
some sort of arrangement. "I will not believe it is over until it is
over," he said to investors during a recent Webcast conference,
according to
Forbes. In late January,
Pixar
announced that it had ended efforts to extend its seven-picture
distribution deal with Disney, which will expire after the companies
release "The Incredibles" and "Cars." In announcing the end of the
effort, Pixar CEO Steve Jobs said it was "a shame that Disney won't be
participating in Pixar's future successes."

01/29/2004 05:03 PMWhoa. People I know are in the Apple Music store. I can pay to
download last year's Fray Cafe and the 2001 Fray too (I can buy Lance Arthur and Mena Trott for 99 cents!). The Brad Sucks album is there too (psst: you can download it from his
site for free, and it's unencrypted or buy the CD direct from him like
I did). I even see a search for "Scott Andrew" is turning a song up
from the Fray CD, with hopefully more to come.

Disney's RSS 0.93
Disney's RSS 0.93
10/31/2003 09:23 AMDave Winer noted some
23 new
feeds from ABC news. What is particularly interesting
about these feeds is that they are marked as RSS 0.93, complete
with a DTD copyright Walt Disney Internet Group. The DOCTYPE
also indicates this ownership. The version number is repeated
in the URL itself.
The channel on these feeds don't have a description (despite
being required by the DTD). Pubdates seem to be in a
compressed form of the
ISO 8601
format. Links are expressed as CDATA (which is OK), but
some of the links have an extraneous double quote character at the
end of the URL (which is not).
Disney's PC
Disney's PC
08/06/2004 07:52 AM
Disney has launched a $900 kids' PC, called the Disney Dream Desk.
Looks like complete poo. While the mouse-ears on
the
wildly overpriced $300 CRT monitor are vaguely cute, the
system lacks any of the industrial-design whimsy of the old Disney
VCR<
/a> and TV, which geniuinely appeared
to belong in a Disney theme park.
What's more, Disney's Unique Sales Propositions for their PC is that
it comes with censorware that will keep your children from looking at
porn (and about one-third of the sites that deal well with concepts
covered in the common curriculum, oops), and some DRMed-up
make-your-own-Disney-video software. Snore.
Oh and it comes with a mouse. Hardy har har.

(Thanks, Scotto!)
Update: Benoit sez, "The monitor is actually
a flat panel LCD. It looks like a CRT in that picture you have but
that's actually the computer tower placed behind the LCD."

Will Eisner Dies at age 86
The father of the modern Graphic Novel and hugely influential comics
figure has died today from heart surgery complications. His concept
of
Sequential Art helped move comics out of
the idea of being solely "kid's stuff" and was seen as a
cannon in the comic art world.
He was working on a book called "The Plot" due out later
this year. He will be missed. More info and Eisner Bio at

Eisner liked Fahrenheit 9/11
07/15/2004 05:17 PMJoi's at the Fortune Brainstorm event, blogging Michael Eisner's
remarks as they're spoken:
He was asked if he regretted not distributing Fahrenheit 9/11. He said
no. Disney is not partisan and the movie was clearly political. Disney
is an entertainment company. He said Rupert Murdoch said no for a
completely different reason. Murdoch said he hated Moore and liked
Bush. That's not why Disney didn't distribute the film.
When asked whether he liked the movie, Eisner said he loved it. It was
like going to a rock concert. It was entertaining, hilarious. He loved
it in a non-political way.

12/04/2003 07:19 PM
Walt Disney's FBI files are a hoot -- all 450 pages worth. Mostly,
they consist of various Feebs (all the way up to Hoover, whom field
agents call "The Boss") fretting that Disney's farce comedies like
That Darn Cat (which was based on a
novel written by a retired Agent who was a constant thorn in
the Bureau's side) would cast a disparaging light on the Bureau and
speculating about how to convince Walt to change the FBI agents to a
different species of Fed cop -- SS, Park Ranger, anything but the
G-Men. Also noteworthy: trying to figure out if Walt is a Commie,
debating whether they should let Walt film the crime-lab as part of a
Mickey Mouse Club "future careers" spot.
