Canon Announces the XL2 07/13/2004 12:11 PM

canon_xl2.jpg image

The waiting is over for the prosumer mini-DV world as Canon (finally) releases the XL2, the follow-up to the wildly successful (some would say ground-breaking) XL1S. With both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios (film-like and TV-like, respectively), variable frame rates (again, to more closely emulate film or TV), interchangeable lens (the same as the XL1S had, including a new 20x optical zoom lens), and more, all wrapped around a 3 CCD system for maximum image, you know, fantasticness.

More after the jump.

An interactive graphical system facilitates the creation of statistical charts and reports. S-Plus 7 is available today for Windows, Sun Solaris, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. S-Plus Server will be available in the second quarter.

Sanyo Announces New CEO

Sanyo Announces New CEO 04/08/2005 10:39 AM

Sanyo Electric Corporation announced on the 8th that they have a new CEO coming in, named Tomoyo Nonaka. This is a significant move for the company as she is replacing Toshimasa Iue, grandson of Sanyo founder Toshio Iue.

Tomoyo Nonaka is female. I wouldn't really bother to point this out in fear of all the hate mail Joel will receive, but it's Japan. Women's rights still have a very, very long way to go over there (particularly in the corporate world), and this a step in the right direction. Tomoyo Nonaka's experience is plentiful, from being a newscaster to CEO of Asahi Beer.

Mitch Ratcliffe announces....

Mitch Ratcliffe announces.... 03/17/2005 04:26 AM

This just in from Mitch Ratcliffe,

Folks,

Forgive my shouldering my way into your email inbox, but I wanted to give you a heads up on the announcement we are making next week at PC Forum. Persuadio, my new company, is tackling the problem of mapping the relationships between people and information.

This posting explains our first project, MyDensity, a free mapping of the first two degrees of network connections around any URL and the idea of the broad topology we believe will emerge out of the long tail discourse that currently dominates discussions of the market and society today:

http://www.ratcliffeblog.com/archives/000813.html

We're running on a relatively thin server capacity and some of the maps have many thousands of nodes, but we're looking for funding to ramp the backend to improve performance. If it is a bit slow now, please be patient. We think you'll find the maps are worth the short wait.

Please let me know what you think and ask questions!

Best,
Mitch

IAC announces Ask Jeeves buyout

IAC announces Ask Jeeves buyout 03/22/2005 03:32 PM
InterActiveCorp on Monday announced it has agreed to buy the fourth largest search engine in the United States, Ask Jeeves, for $1.85 billion. According to the deal, InterActiveCorp will issue 1.2668 shares of its common stock for each share of Ask Jeeves stock in a tax-free transaction. InterActiveCorp intends to buy back at least 60 percent of the shares it plans to issue for acquisition through previously authorized share repurchase programs to offset a substantial portion of the dilution from the transaction with cash. “Joining IAC will enable us to play on a much larger field," Ask Jeeves CEO Steve Berkowitz said. "We are excited about the opportunity to serve as the connection between IAC’s constellation of leading online properties to share users and content. Ask Jeeves will now be in an even stronger position to aggressively grow market share.”
