Ludicorp (disclosure: I'm an advisor to Ludicorp), whose Game Neverending was one of the most interesting social software projects of the last two years, has just launched a new product, called Flickr, live on-stage at ETCON.

Flikr is a social image-sharing application: it's a mechanism for creating ad-hoc chats, using a drag-and-drop GUI interface that lives inside your browser, and share images from peer-to-peer and within conversational groups.

I've beta-tested this at various points and at each time I've been struck by Ludicorp's amazing combination of utilitarian, usable interface aesthetic and genuinely witty whimsy. As Ben Ceivgny, a developer on the project, said:

We collect images with cameraphones and so forth, but we have no good mechanism for advancing them out into the world. Here's a mechanism for batching them into a locked-and-loaded tool for firing them into the world.

Google writes in: Today, Google announced two new updates to Google Image Search that further help users find the information they need. First, Google Image Search now includes more than 1.1 billion images from around the world. With a comprehensive index of images, users can quickly and easily find relevant images of both popular and obscure queries. In addition, Google released a new feature that displays images from Google Image Search above Google web search results when they're relevant to users' search queries. When users search for queries such as [sunsets], [mountains], [torre eiffel], or [inverno] on the Google homepage, they may see relevant thumbnail images at the top of their search results marked "Image Results." When users click on the thumbnail images, they will be directed to the website that contains the original image. Users may also click on the "Image Results" link to see the complete Google Image Search results page for that query....

The BBC is reporting on Downhill Battle's move to offer the new Microsoft Windows XP update via BitTorrent as a way of showing how distributed file sharing applications can be used for legitimate, non-infringing purposes (though, the article hints that Microsoft isn't particularly thrilled about this). Of course, anyone who understands how BitTorrent works knows that there are already plenty of examples of non-infringing uses of BitTorrent. At this point, unfortunately, this demo may only serve to show how immature BitTorrent actually is. While the concept is great, the implementation still needs quite a bit of work.
