Here's something we're not used to see coming out of Japan: low-cost products. Evergeen has announced the "EG-MP3" series of USB memory type MP3 players. And cheap for Japan means about $60 USD for a 256MB model, which isn't half bad in America, even. Looking at the low cost, and seeing as how this can double as a USB memory drive, I'm thinking they're trying to appeal to the "2nd mp3 player" market. You know, the kind of people who think "well, I'm looking for a USB memory thingy, and it's only another $10 for one that plays MP3s." Yeah, those people.

Judging by the name of the online vendor (Shanghai Donya), though, I get the feeling this isn't a Made in Japan product.

muro.jpg
imagedapreview reports on the "The color" from Korean manufacturer "Muro." It obviously has a color screen and compact form factor, but this isn't the cool part. No, it's how the player is about as large as a Zippo, supports MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, and MPEG-4 video playback. I don't know how enjoyable an MPEG-4 video would be a screen under 1" in size, but I guess if you're really hard up for entertainment, this could end up being a decent player to fiddle with.

Zippo-si zed Muro "the color" supports MPEG-4 playback [dapreview]

MSI MEGA Player 515 Review 06/17/2004 10:06 AM

mis_mega_515.jpg imageTrustedReviews takes out the MSI MEGA Player 515 for a twirl -- it's the flash MP3 player that's most rememberable for its mirror-finish OLED display -- and they give it 9 humps out of 10, despite its crusty old USB 1.1 interface and only 256MB of memory. Personally, I think they're just suckers for the display, just like every other person that buys the little soap-tray of a player will have to be.

256MB version of 6600 to come

256MB version of 6600 to come 09/11/2004 03:58 AM
IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE to build a card that will have 500/1000MHz clock and still have more than 128MB memory and sell it for less than $200. At least this is how Nvidia feels. A 128 Mbit memory clocked to 1000MHz still costs too much. As for a 6600 standard card clocked at 300MHz core and only 500 MHz memory it won't be any problem to make a 256MB card and sell it to all that worship at the altar of massive amounts of memory.

Top Tip: 128MB or 256MB graphics card?

Top Tip: 128MB or 256MB graphics card? 08/17/2004 02:14 AM
My question is this: You can get the 9800 Pro with 128mb or with 256mb. Does any game actually use 256mb and is it necessary to pay the extra to have the extra memory?
