While Sony Tries To Become Apple,
Samsung Tries To Become Sony
While Sony Tries To Become Apple,
Samsung Tries To Become Sony
05/13/2004 03:41 AMHas anyone noticed that it's becoming increasingly difficult to tell
Samsung from Sony? It appears that almost everything Sony does,
Samsung does as well. So, it's really no surprise that a little over
a month after Sony announced plans to
build
out retail stores more for advertising than for sales,
Samsung plans to
do the same thing. Of course, while Sony says they're more
interested in using the stores for advertising, Samsung has gone one
step further. They believe so strongly that this "store" is just for
advertising that
they won't sell you anything at the store.
It's for showcasing products only. Also, a random note in the
article, but the same week that Sony and Nintendo announced their
plans for their next generation handheld gaming devices, this article
also mentions that Samsung is planning for its own N-Gage like
phone/gaming device. Apparently, the dismal failure of the N-Gage
isn't enough to scare them off.

Microsoft looking at possible Sony deal
01/06/2005 02:33 PMMicrosoft may try to strike a deal with Japan's Sony in an effort to
compete with Apple in the digital music arena, the Wall Street Journal
repors. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told the newspaper in an
interview published on Thursday that the two companies could benefit
from a broad partnership in digital entertainment, both having "a
lot of incentive to work together" in digital-music
"infrastructure," including online-music services and
protection against improper music copying.

Sony Inks Korean Hotspot Deal for PSP
03/28/2005 07:50 AMWireless Watch Japan is reporting that Sony has partnered with
Korean internet provider KT Corp. to offer internet service for the
PSP via the company's 14,000 hotspots. It's not unexpected, of course,
but that pretty much cinches it for any nay-sayers: the PSP is going
to get a proper web browser, and soon. So not only will the PSP be a
mobile gaming rig, an easy video platform, and an MP3 player, it'll
also be a down-and-dirty internet machine. And once the keyboards begin hitting the shelf,
we'll have ourselves quite a little unit for $250.
