"Microsoft released a "technical beta" of WMP 10 this week, and said it features a streamlined interface and a Digital Media Mall comprised of storefronts provided by partners Napster LLC, MusicNow LLC and CinemaNow Inc. The company is also saying that WMP simplifies the process of transferring tracks from PCs to portable devices and synchronizing playlists. WMP 10 will automatically detect compatible devices and synchronize via a new Multimedia Transfer Protocol."

apple_osaka.jpg imageImpress Watch took advantage of Apple's offer to members of the press for a sneak preview of the Shinsaibashi store (in Osaka, Japan), and brought back images that remind me of... the Apple store in the mall. Not that it's an entirely bad thing - the mall stores are pretty swanky.

While we're on the topic of things not being bad, Apple's market in Japan certainly isn't either. This two story, 500 square meter Osaka store is the second Apple store in the country. Though the first floor appears to be your common Apple store, a glass staircase will take you to the second floor that features a bar and 25-person seminar room. The store will open to the public on the 28th, so I'm expecting a bunch of people to bum rush the place and help Apple pay for that much square footage in downtown Osaka.

While we're on the subject of Apple stores, the company also announced a third Apple store in Japan at the press event: Nagoya, to open early next year.
