Tungsten T5 Pics Were a Hoax 09/01/2004 08:04 AM

t53.jpg
imageApparently all that Tungsten T5 business over at 1src was a hoax, and the site's editor Joel (no relation) seems to be taking it a little hard. Buck up, camper. You got duped. It happens. We ain't mad at you.

In my opinion, it's more fun to run the images and have people tear them apart, anyway. It's like open-source reporting; a thousand eyes are going to be able to find the flaws in the fake images a lot better than one (laser accident).

PalmOne Tungsten T5 and E2 Rumors, Pics 08/30/2004 06:26 AM

T53.jpg
imageSo when I mentioned that we had some older news that needed to be revisited, this is basically what I was talking about. Some of the first information about the PalmOne Tungsten T5 and E2 PDAs has come to light, and while there's lots of interesting tidbits (rumor, of course) like the T5's lack of a slider like the old one, I think the most notable bit of news is that both of these will finally be running PalmOne's BEOS-influenced OS6. There is also a planned (rumored) OS6 update for the Tungsten C and T3 after the new T5 is released in April of next year. Looks like good stuff.

It is a little sad, in a way, to see Palm's form factor sort of giving up the ghost and moving to a PocketPC-styled slate, but really, it makes total sense. The silk-screened Graffiti area was really played out, and if OS6 does everything it promises to do, we'll want every bit of screen real estate we can get.

Is this the Tungsten T4? Probably not. 11/11/2003 11:45 AM
This is almost certainly a fake Photoshopped image (someone out there must have a lot of free time on their hands), but a photo of what purports to be the Tungsten T4 has been floating around the Internet. Obviously palmOne hasn't uttered a word about this yet (or if they're even planning to make a T4), but fake or not, we do like the idea of grafting a mini-keyboard onto the Tungsten T3. [Thanks, Brian]...

Tungsten T6 Rumors

Tungsten T6 Rumors 03/17/2005 03:51 AM

tungsten2005_1_.jpgThe freshest rumors about PalmOne's forthcoming Tungsten read a little lot like a fairy tale, so we won't get our hopes up just yet. Features for the T6 (or Tungsten 2005, as the case may be) include Bluetooth, Wavelan, 1GB of Flash memory, a 3 MP digital camera, an ethernet port, iTunes compatibility, an initial price of about $400, Graffiti 2 Plus with voice commands and the ability to clean your teeth while you sleep and print money.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I have enough grains of salt to accompany this list, especially considering the hat tip from A_Man_In_Black in #gizmodo:

The Tungstens consciously don't include cameras, because of workplace restrictions. A new high-end Palm with a camera would be a Zire, not a Tungsten.

Tungsten T6 Rumors Revisited, Not T6

Tungsten T6 Rumors Revisited, Not T6 03/19/2005 02:45 AM

palm_one_logo.jpgSo it appears that the rumors surrounding the next Tungsten have just gotten even more packed with whimsy. Palm Addict has received word that the new device will have 4GB of internal memory, weigh in a bit heavier than the T5 and will include built-in Wi-Fi. It will not, however, be called the T6, or even be part of the Tungsten line, for the rumor whispers on that it will be released at the end of April as a new sub-brand from palmOne. Take your rumors with an extra dose of salt today, please. (Thanks, Sammy!))

Palm Tungsten 3 Update

Palm Tungsten 3 Update 12/11/2003 04:55 PM
PalmOne have released a T3 Update which fixes some SD Card issues and an audio interrupt problem which caused the 400Mhz processor to run at slower speeds -- typically hovering around 260Mhz.

WARNING: Be sure to backup first! Yes, I know you're always told to do a backup before an update, but this time it's for real. The update flashes the ROM, giving all your settings the boot -- and I mean _all_ of them. To be sure you're backing up, open your Palm's HotSync Manager, select Hotsync > Conduit Settings > double-click Backup, check the Backup radio box, and click OK. HotSync. Do the T3 Update per their instructions. Come back to this dialog box and select Restore from backup, then HotSync again to put everything back as it was. You may indeed see some of those old appointments and todos re-appearing if you chose to Save a Copy on the PC when you deleted them somewhere along the line.

It fits into the handheld's SDIO slot and searches for available Wi-Fi networks when the user taps the setup icon on the screen. palmOne had not yet placed a product page for the new card on its Web site as MacCentral posted this article.

Nice Palm, So-So PDA)
04/13/2005 08:57 AM

tungsten_e2o.jpgThe PalmOne Tungsten E2 is official and it looks like a pretty decent deal for the price, although its conspicuous lack of Wi-Fi should not be understated. The E2 retains the 320 by 320 pixel display, although PalmOne claims it is "brighter" and "richer," and adds built-in Bluetooth for connectivity. The processor has gotten a bump, too, moving from a 126MHz OMAP to a 200MHz Xscale. Otherwise, it doesn't appear to be that different than the original Tungsten E. The best news is the price, which remains a reasonable $250.
