03/31/2005 07:35 PMGriffin Technology Inc. on Thursday announced the release of their
AirClick Remote for iPod and iPod mini, a remote control designed, as
you might have guessed, to work with Apple's iPod and iPod mini. The
AirClick Remote is different from most iPod remote controls because it
works using Radio Frequency (RF) technology instead of infrared, so it
doesn't require a line of sight to the iPod and can operate up to 60
feet away, according to Griffin. It's shipping now for US$39.99.

08/13/2004 07:17 AMGriffin Technology has introduced
RoadTrip, a 3-in-1 device that provides an FM transmitter, charger and cradle
for all dock-capable iPod and iPod mini MP3 players. The transmitter
broadcasts your music on any FM frequency on your car stereo, with a
backlit display that shows which frequency is in use, while the
charger keeps your iPod's battery at full capacity. The RoadTrip plugs
into any 12-volt outlet or cigarette lighter in your car and its
transmitter unit can be removed and plugged into a USB port on your
computer, enabling music broadcast from it to any nearby FM stereo.
Griffin has left the top of the US$79.99 device open for use with
other iPod accessories, which means RoadTrip isn't compatible with the
1G and 2G iPods that have FireWire ports on top.

company's Icewear mini cases. Prie Hook, which will ship in
mid-January for US$54, features a large metal hook that you can use to
attach the leather case to a belt loop or other spot. A flap at the
bottom opens for charging the MP3 player in a dock; slots at the top
and bottom allow access to all the ports. It's available in two
models, one that fits all 4G iPods -- including the iPod photo -- and
one that fits the iPod mini; the hook on the latter doesn't swivel 360
degrees, however.

of the MP3 player. The latter covers its entire body, except for click
wheel and control access, and covers its LCD screen with clear vinyl.
Both front panel designs still allow access to the headphone jack and

that includes a long strap and a short one and another that offers the

What's cooler than hanging with your fellow iPod users on Miami's

iPod mini in your pocket?
Yeah, that probably got your attention. But thanks to event sponsors
iPodResQ, the iPod mini is just one prize among many that we'll be
giving away at the South Beach iPod Garage Party. So what do you have
to do to win? All you have to do is show up with your iPod, connect it
to our sound system, and play "DJ" for twelve minutes as you share the
highlights of your own music library with the rest of us (as many
songs as you like, as long as it fits within the time limit). Yep,
it's your very own twelve minutes of fame.

Griffin, in collaboration with designer Greg Gutierrez, has created an
enclosure that incorporates maximum protection with an elegant design.
Machined entirely out of aluminum, the iVault safely encloses your
iPod Shuffle, while still allowing total access to the control wheel,
audio jack, on switch, USB port, and LED. The front and back halves of
the case are joined together by 4 small screws, so your iPod Shuffle
is guaranteed to be secure. Lightweight yet strong, the iVault and the
iPod Shuffle together weigh less than 1.5 ounces. The iVault is
available in silver, blue, purple and red.
The Griffin iVault is priced at USD$29.99 and it is scheduled to begin
shipping in May of 2005. Pre-orders are being accepted now.

Belkin TuneStage
12/19/2004 03:01 PMWhat if you put a snake in a bong? You would get so high. You might
even think that designing a Bluetooth audio bridge for the iPod, like
the upcoming (and mysteriously not-pictured) Belkin TuneStage, is a
good idea. And maybe you'd be right—it'd be like an AirPort
Express with iTunes, except all your songs would be on the iPod, and
you wouldn't have to go back to your computer every time you wanted to
change a song (assuming you don't use a remote or something).
iPodlounge has gotten word that Belkin has done this very thing and
will be unveiling it soonish (before CES, at least). They might even
throw an optical TOSlink out on the receiver to compliment the RCA and
minijack connections it already has. I say live it up, hippies.

Belkin Goes MIMO
Belkin Goes MIMO
08/09/2004 12:49 AMBelkin will use Airgo's MIMO technology for consumer products,
News.com reports: The multiple-in, multiple-out technology that Airgo
is bringing to market has other manufacturers signed on, but Belkin is
the first well-known, mass-market brand name planning--reportedly--to
sell Airgo-based equipment. The gateway will be $179 and the client
card $129; they will be available in mid-October. Airgo's equipment
supports 802.11g, and its own faster, further proprietary technology.
Airgo claims a fourfold increase in throughput and range: they told me
months ago that their 108 Mbps proprietary flavor has a throughput
that's much, much higher than competing proprietary extensions. The
proof is in the performance. Airgo justifies the higher price their
added value brings at this stage in Wi-Fi's development by the greater
coverage area. However, you need new client cards to take full
advantage, which offsets some of the cost savings of more coverage
area....

For something that costs $500 and has 40Mbit of wireless
bandwidth at its disposal, you'd think the Belkin PureAV could do a
little better than SDTV signal (Standard Definition), even if it does
have component input and output. Basically a wireless wire, the PureAV
is designed to let you transmit video signal up to 350 feet (depending
on interference, like walls, or hurricanes). And it looks like it is
compressing the signal via MEPG2 before it beams it, which probably
isn't that big a deal, but come on! How could anyone drop $500 on
something these days that can't at least support higher resolution
formats? Maybe there's something going on here I'm missing.
