Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, took a cue from his boss, CEO Steve Jobs, as he unveiled one more thing at the end of his keynote to kick off this week's Apple Expo in Paris: a iMac G5 that includes the entire system inside a 17- or 20-inch LCD screen. Continuing the all-in-one theme that started with the original CRT iMac, the G5 edition features a new industrial design that complements Apple's recently refreshed Cinema Displays. Schiller said that the new iMacs will be available in mid-September.

Apple's newest portable, the iBook G4 is very much like the popular 12-inch PowerBook Apple released at the beginning of 2003. The 12-inch white polycarbonate iBook with its 800MHz processor is 67MHz slower than the Aluminum 12-inch PowerBook's G4, and the iBook is not available with a Superdrive, but aside from this, the machines are almost identical. In fact, when it was first introduced, the 12-inch PowerBook was often jokingly referred to as a G4 iBook.

Apple iMac G5 08/31/2004 06:03 AM

imac_g5_paris.jpg imageAnd it lives! Apple has fully unveiled the new iMac G5, and it's basically a Pizza box PC that looks a lot like the new Cinema displays, except white. Available in 17- and 20-inch form, the machines will come with 1.6 and 1.8GHz G5 processors, respectively. I'll go ahead and throw up this post with pictures, then actually wake up and jump up with more details.

Read - Product Page [Apple]

Update: One sort of geeky thing that immediately is noticable is that the iMac G5 doesn't share the "50% of the processor speed" bus as the PowerMac G5s. That's going to be a real performance wrinkler (although still a welcome bump from the G4).
