08/09/2004 07:27 AM
To commemorate the Olympic Games, sponsor Samsung
Electronics has released 1000 special edition "Gold Premium Phones"
(models SCH-E470, SPH-E3200, and SPH-E3250) and auctioned them online.
The first lot of six phones has been bid up to over one million won
(around $12,000). The phones themselves are not actually gold, except
for a rim around the LCD monitor, but do have the emblem of the Athens
Olympics inscribed as well as special serial numbers that make them
worth money in the increasingly popular world of cell phone
collectables.
All proceeds of the auctions are to be given to an Olympic athlete
who doesn't get a medal but still leaves a "great impression or
delivers deep emotions" to the Koreans, who will vote for their
favorite loser online.
