ides of march
03/15/2003 05:14 PM Today is the
Ides of March. What is the
Ides of
March? It is March 15th in the ancient Roman calender, the first
day of the Roman New Year and the first day of spring. The
Roman calender
refered to days by names not numbers, thus each month has an Ide day,
although not always on the 15th. The Ides of March is best known as
the day Julius Caesar was assasinated in the Senate (44 BC) and made
famous by the
Shakespeare line "Beware the Ides of March". It modern
times it has come to symbolize
foreboding and bad
luck. Iggy Pop
sang
about it prophetically with todays current events, and in Rome where
it all started it's a good day to

12/29/2003 09:15 PM AP: "FBI Issues Alert Against
Almanac Carriers" I know this is kind of a case of the media
distorting the facts, but still...isn't it kind of nincompoopish of
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (the FBI fer crissakes!) to name
almanacs and maps as part of a possible preponderance of evidence? And
in other news--because nobody ever said you can't crosspost in your
own initial post--in the future, tragically hip film grad students
will write thesis papers about this
Stepford Wives trailer.

ience-fair-projects.com/Today your teacher announced
that your school is going to have a science fair and students are
responsible for exhibiting their projects. What do you feel?
Enthusiastic? Despondent? Dreadful? Fearful? Excited?" This statement
opens the Super Science Fair Projects site. Actually, whether student
or parent, science fair projects, while great ways to get students
actively involved in learning the scientific method and problem
solving, can be tough assignments. This site may help you with one of
the hardest parts: coming up with an idea. The site does a great job
of walking the visitor through the steps needed to plan and implement
a project, from Choosing a Topic, the Scientific Method, and writing
the Project Report. There are even tips on displaying your project,
rehearsing, winning over judges, and what to expect the day of the
fair. This is definitely a great tool to tap into when planning a
science fair project.[From The NSDL Scout Report for Math,

The New
Orleans WPA Photograph Collection exclusively shows photographs of
depression-era projects from Louisiana, so there's a whole set of WPA
projects -- from the world-famous
Golden
Gate Bridge, to venerated
Doubleday
Field, to the beautiful but obscure
Border
Station in Naco, AZ -- that you just won't see here.
Nevertheless, if you take the time to explore this site you
will find
some truly wonderful photographs<

are akin to the realist style being carved out at the time by folks
like Walker Evans<
/a>, who actually did do some photography for the Farm Security
Administration (another New Deal-era project).

roadblocks that derailed our first solution of having a single Global
Core Directory Service with edge directories and databases using meta
connectors." In other words, the technology was the easy part.

IT Myth 5: Most IT projects fail
08/13/2004 06:17 PMDo most IT projects fail? Some point to the number of giant
consultancies such as IBM Global Services, Capgemini, and Sapient, who
feed off bad experiences encountered by enterprises. ?Sapient is a
company founded on the realization that IT projects are not
successful,? says Sapient CTO Ben
Gaucherin.

Navigate the .NET Framework and Your
Projects with "My"
04/22/2004 01:20 AM One of the biggest issues that programmers run into is the sheer
breadth of .NET, which means that finding the best class for a
particular task can be quite daunting. I have read many newsgroup
postings from developers working very hard to call a Win32® API
function from their Visual Basic .NET or C# code, when that exact
function already exists in .NET. Why are they trying to call the API?
They didn't find, notice, or perhaps understand how they could use
existing parts of the Framework. My provides an intuitive navigation
hierarchy that exposes existing .NET functionality through easily
understood root objects, targeting the practical tasks and concepts
that you grapple with on a regular basis.
