Well. I just got a chance to see The Matrix Revolutions. I don't want to spoil it for you, so all I can say is... You know that weird SF geek friend of yours? The one that bought the complete set of Star Trek movies in the box set and not only unwrapped, but actually watched Star Trek V? When it comes out on DVD and he buys it, borrow it. That way when you go to clean your apartment and need some background noise, you'll have something handy. Pretty good Wrath of God music, though. Gotta say that for...

I feel so burned. I can't believe I (called in sick to go see) went to Matrix Revolutions. IMO, they shouldn't have made it into a franchise, as the first Matrix was just fine as a stand-alone movie.

ADO.NET 2.0 Feature Matrix

ADO.NET 2.0 Feature Matrix 07/13/2004 12:25 AM
ADO.NET 2.0 comes with a plethora of new features. This includes a new base-class–based provider model and features that all providers can take advantage of, as well as changes that are specific to System.Data.SqlClient. Because the .NET Framework 2.0 is being released in conjunction with SQL Server 2005, some of these features require SQL Server 2005 to be usable. This article is meant to serve as an overview and roadmap of the new features, give examples of their use, and includes a chart of which features are provider-neutral and which are SqlClient-specific. In future articles in this series, I'll be going over some of the features in greater detail. In addition, there are many new features of the DataSet and friends; these will be covered in future articles.

Matrix reviews

Matrix reviews 11/05/2003 02:29 PM

STLtoday: "The Matrix Revolutions" is awful. It's not merely hapless or disappointing - it's a total catastrophe, an apocalyptic waste of money and talent that obliterates its very purpose, which was to resolve the cosmological questions that were posed by that misbegotten middle child, "The Matrix Reloaded."

Daily Trojan: "by the time the long awaited denouement is delivered, which reveals the power behind the Machine World, the "Deus Ex Machina," most viewers will already be looking at their watches."

matrix.jpg

Tri-City Herald: "If this is what big-budget freedom does to filmmakers, they should be kept in chains. Louder, longer, more expensive and dumber than its predecessors, "Revolutions" is a mediocrity that will provide escapism only to those who head for the theater exits."

CBS News: "Revolutions" eats all of the goodwill built up by "The Matrix," and then some. It isn't just bad moviemaking -- it's a bizarrely self-destructive film."

BBC NEWS: "No-one really expects sequels to be better than the original, but Matrix Revolutions is a crushing disappointment in almost every way."

More reviews.

Now that your expectations have been sufficiently lowered, feel free to go see it. I certainly will.

Exit the MATRIX

Exit the MATRIX 02/10/2004 02:51 AM
Jane Black at Businessweek Online reports that more than half of the states that signed up for the MATRIX law-enforcement database have quit it. The Multistate Anti-Terrorism Information Exchange lets the police draw on multiple databases to create instant dossiers on, well, anyone they want. Here are Jane's conclusions: There's no doubt that MATRIX raises privacy red flags, though after an extensive briefing by the Florida Law Enforcement Dept., which is spearheading the project, I believe that it's little more than an efficient way to query multiple databases. The real furor over MATRIX demonstrates something much more important — and...

No longer something that you just see in movies, the Matrix has taken on a whole new meaning. The Multi-state Anti-Terrorism Information exchange aka MATRIX is a heavily funded data mining operation designed to keep tabs on “potential threats”. While privacy advocates are going nuts over this, supporters point out that it was able to help generate lists of potential suspects after the September 11 attacks….

jkinberg has invented a bicycle that doubles as a dot-matrix printer, huffing out low-resolution ASCII characters from an array of spraypaint cans mounted on the bike's rear and controlled by a Powerbook. He's planning to make a bunch of them to spray anti-GOP messages during the Republican convention -- he calls the project "Bikes Against Bush." Link (Thanks, Poppy!)
