About a month ago, I started reading The Biggest Game in Town. After a few pages, a trip to Vegas started looking really good to me. After a few chapters, a trip to Vegas started looking like something I had to do. After about half the book, I was deep in a full-on, hardcore, undeniable Vega$ Lust. It was powerful, man. I'd look at my watch and think, "You know what? If I left right now, I could be in Vegas in four hours!"

Furthermore, these bright spots are mostly located in the prefrontal cortex. There is a chance that we could all improve our intellect simply by learning to concentrate more, since subregions of the prefrontal cortex are responsible for attentional control.

Lookout for Outlook

Lookout for Outlook 03/06/2004 01:59 AM

Lookout looks really cool. It's a plugin for Outlook that lets people search super fast on Windows machines and in Outlook files...

But I've got a problem with reading these comments by a Longhorn evangelist about how this product gives us a glimpes of what WinFS will bring to the Windows Operating System, not because it doesn't sound cool, but because it's sooo far away... When is Longhorn going to get released again?

I don't mean to be rude or too inciting here, and I welcome the introduction of Longhorn, but doesn't Mac OS X's Finder already have the equivalent of WinFS, or at least 'fast find'? I know it finds files on my computer at Googlespeed straight from the Finder. I didn't have to fork out the cash for Outlook, and I don't get viruses on OS X... I also have pretty damned fast finding features using Apple's Mail (which is free) and the email client I paid for (Mailsmith) has super-fast and truly featured search options. Outlook and Windows have both always sucked at searching...

I'll download and install Lookout tomorrow on the Dell... because I really could use a good way to search inside Outlook. Anything that makes Outlook useful (like Inbox Budddy) is good news to me.

And, yes, if I had my druthers, I'd use a Mac at work, but I don't get to have my druthers.

(And, I spotted a reference to X1 in the comments of the post from Jeff Maurone... I just might check that out too)

Getting out from under Outlook, Part 2

Getting out from under Outlook, Part 2 04/02/2005 05:02 AM
Changing e-mail clients can be a giant pain. Most of that pain is caused by people using their e-mail client as a junk drawer stuffed with hundreds or thousands of messages. This archival method risks your data (Outlook and Outlook Express get weird when holding lots of old messages) and makes it harder to search, sort and organize.

Getting out from under Outlook, Part 1

Getting out from under Outlook, Part 1 03/26/2005 05:41 AM
Recently I recommended getting away from Outlook Express and Outlook, the two e-mail clients from Microsoft. Outlook Express comes with Windows; the full Outlook client comes with Microsoft Office. Several readers - tired of fighting worms and viruses delivered by these programs - demanded to know their options, so here goes.
