09/04/2004 10:38 AMThe book is not for those looking for a quick and easy entry point
into AppleScript programming. However, if you are a serious student or
have grounding in other programming languages, it will be hard to find
a better guidebook. Unlike Apple's own documentation, Neuburg provides
an honest, unprejudiced appraisal of AppleScript's strengths and
weaknesses and offers expert guidance in working with and around them.

another typically thorough and exhaustive review. The editorial team
have written great reviews of all versions of Mac OS X, from Beta to
Jaguar, and now they've published a lengthy
assessment of Panther. An excellent read for those who are
contemplating upgrading and those who already have.
On a personal note - the Powerbook is back with Apple. I'm hoping to
get it back in the next couple of days. Out of curiosity, I booted it
up again on the morning it was due to get sent back - and, lo and
behold, it came back to life! Ah well, hopefully Apple'll check it out
to avoid any future panics occuring.

12/09/2003 12:09 PMMatt Neuberg: "Which brings us to my latest book, AppleScript: The
Definitive Guide, published by O'Reilly & Associates. AppleScript is a
fairly small language, but I was amazed by how difficult it was to
write this book! It took more than twice as long as I'd expected. My
approach, as readers of my Frontier and REALbasic books know, is not
to rely on documentation, but to bang away at the language itself,
testing and experimenting, trying to deduce the underlying rules."

understand how he left out LaunchBar).

all in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

10/28/2003 11:07 PMIt seems like every time Apple releases a minor update, the mac
lovers from all over exaggerate their upgrades into gifts from god
that made their computers faster, their bodies sexier, and their lives
richer.
Not being a huge Apple fanboy myself, I just want the thing to
work, to come close to the speed of my PC, and to be more stable. It
looks like Panther is the first release
that lived up to the hype, for me at least. My powerbook seems
downright peppy and I haven't seen a swirling beachball since I
upgraded. Mail and iChat finally seem stable and Mail isn't going
unresponsive when I have more than one window open. I finally see what
everyone was raving about with Expose, having a quick keyboard
shortcut to get to other windows on a crowded monitor is a
lifesaver.
I haven't dived in much deeper than that, but so far I'm very happy
with the $130 package.

Remember the lunchbox-looking Epson PictureMate
inkjet printer? Well, Bios Magazine took it for a test spray and found
it to be more than just cute -- it's got a great picture quality, as
well. Epson is pushing the PictureMate as a competitor to other
companies' dye-sublimation printers, and its 6-color inkjet process
not only stands up in image quality, but it ends up being a lot
cheaper, as well. It also supports all your standard memory card
formats, like SD/MMC, Memory Stick, CF, Smart Media, and xD, as well
as direct printing from PictBridge/USB On-The-Go devices. It's even
got Bluetooth if you want to throw down an extra $100 or so for the
adapter.
