Jorge gets it about application packaging for Linux distributions. Linux isn't an operating system; Fedora Core, Debian, Gentoo, etc. are separate operating systems and must be packaged and tested for separately.

POPFile in many Linux distributions

POPFile in many Linux distributions 05/21/2004 06:56 PM
Recently POPFile has become a part of many Linux distributions, including Debian, Gentoo and Lindows. POPFile is an email classification tool with a Naive Bayes classifier, a POP3 proxy and a web interface. It runs on most platforms and with most email clients. Debian: http://packages.debian.org/unstable/mail/popfile Gentoo: http://packages.gentoo.org/packages/?category=net-mail;name=popfile Lindows: http://www.linspire.com/lindows_products_details.php?id=11920 The Lindows page is rather well done. Selling Linux Distributions

Selling Linux Distributions 07/08/2004 03:31 PM

Cheap Linux and BSD CDs: This guy has made a business out of downloading new Linux distributions, burning them to CD, and selling the CDs.

We provide all the latest Linux and BSD distributions on CD for your convenience and enjoyment.

Simple, but as bandwidth increases, I don't know how much value he's going to be able to provide. The only reason I would buy one if I couldn't download and burn one, and the only reason that would happen is if I was short on bandwidth.

Havoc "no permalinks" Pennington has some smart thinking about Linux software dependencies and packaging. I think you have to go even further and consider each Linux distribution to be a separate operating system which application developers must port to, test, and support. And there's still the problem of apps that are included in some distributions but not in others.

Jorge Luis Borges is a giant of 20th century literature, and a monster in South American arts and letters, despite the fact that his entire fiction canon can be read in English, in a single, well translated volume. This article is a short review of some of Borges' favorite themes - Infinity and mirrors, identity, and the true nature of reality.

When Lycoris released a new version of its popular Linux operating system, Desktop/LX 1.4, this week, it also debuted a new application integration infrastructure, nicknamed AI2 (A-I-squared). The company claims that AI2 "bridges the gap" between commercial Linux applications and the Linux desktop. Already, one major Linux application vendor, NeTraverse, has had its flagship desktop product, Win4Lin Workstation, integrated with Lycoris' Desktop/LX operating system using the AI2 system. But is AI2 really as revolutionary as Lycoris claims? Even if it is, does it matter?

Although it's still several months away from when the Original Trilogy Collection toys start to hit the shelves, we've gotten a few photos of the repackaged X-Wing Fighter and TIE Fighter that are showing up over in Hong Kong. Thanks to forum member Vader Fett for the pictures. Plus, this just sent in from reader Johnny B: a proof card of the Stormtrooper (former Hall of Fame version), which recently appeared at Slave1 Japan!
