PHP Composer: I nominate this as the most uselessly cool programming tool I've ever seen.

This class is meant to render images of the musical score of ring tones notes used in cellular phones, defined in the RTTL format.

It parses the RTTL ring tones string to extract the information about the author, duration, scale, beats per minute and the notes of the tune.

Then it renders the score image using a customizable logo and an appropriate TrueType font to render the notes in the score.

RTTL, it turns out, stamds for "Ring Tone Transfer Language." You can find out more about the protocol here.

I am awake at 3:45 AM (Helsinki time) because the fire alarm went off in the hallway. (I'm in the Radisson SAS Seaside Hotel in Helsinki.) Then the TV turned on. (Yay! A message.) The TV started flashing "Fire Alarm" and blaring, "Please remain calm. We are investigating the cause." The volume steadily got louder until the TV was full blast. (I couldn't turn down the volume.) Then the TV suddenly turned off. The alarm in the hallway continued. Then turned off. Then turned on. And off... over and over for awhile. Finally the alarm stopped. Either the operator of the TV emergency notification system was burned alive or they had forgotten to tell us to "it was nothing." Finally, I called down to the front desk and they said, "oh, it was nothing." Doh. This is the second false hotel fire alarm in 6 months or so. What a drag. This is sort of like hotel spam. Well, not really, but it's really annoying.

The quad-band GSM phone should work in the US just fine, though, so if you really want to get a hold of the device that is a lot like a 'Windows Treo with Wi-Fi' (in my estimation, at least), then you'll probably be able to import one for the better part of $1,000.

My search for mobile satisfaction continues. I haven't been blown away by the Treo 650—not enough to pay $650 for it, at least—and my laptop still seems like best size-to-effectiveness tool I have. But I'm holding out hope for the BenQ P50 Pocket PC Phone, which Expansys just listed for pre-order on their site (for what that's worth) at just $450. It's faster than the Treo, has a better camera (at least higher megapixel), and has built-in Wi-Fi. My holy grail is to be able to update the site from a phone (including image editing, which is the big rub). I might just be able to pull it off with this one—I hope this means its coming soon.
