DomainKeys Documentation Now Available

DomainKeys Documentation Now Available 05/18/2004 05:55 PM
Well, the mystery of DomainKeys is now public. Email spoofing - the forging of another person's or company's email address to get users to trust and open a message - is one of the biggest challenges facing both the Internet community and anti-spam technologists today. Without sender authentication, verification, and traceability, email providers can never know for certain if a message is legitimate or forged and will therefore have to continually make educated guesses on behalf of their users...

AppleScript Documentation

AppleScript Documentation 10/29/2003 12:13 AM
AppleScript is Apple's native scripting technology. It enables users to directly control applications, including the Mac OS itself, by creating sets of English-like instructions, or scripts. Developers can make their applications scriptable; that is, capable of responding to Apple events. Carbon and Cocoa applications both support scripting, allowing applications to execute scripts or send individual Apple events to take advantage of features of other applications.

Revised Documentation: AppleScript for
Mac OS X

Revised Documentation: AppleScript for
Mac OS X
05/28/2004 04:55 PM
This document provides a high-level overview of AppleScript for Mac OS X, along with pointers to additional documentation. AppleScript is a scripting language that provides direct control of scriptable applications and of many parts of the Mac OS. A scriptable application is one that is capable of responding to AppleScript messages, which are called Apple events. Scripters can write scripts to automate operations, while developers can use AppleScript as an aid to rapid prototyping and automated testing of their scriptable applications.

In praise of Apache documentation

In praise of Apache documentation 03/06/2004 02:01 AM

I spent much of today upgrading a distinctly hairy Apache 1.3 server to Apache 2.0 as part of a routine OS upgrade. It certainly wasn't plain sailing - I still have a few crinkles to iron out - but that's more down to the weirdness of the existing configuration than any problems with Apache 2.

Apache 2 is a beautifully designed piece of software. The documentation is superb - the migration guide proved invaluable but the real gem was the direct ive quick reference. Armed with the quick reference and Firefox's Type Ahead Find the previously inpenetrable httpd.conf file becomes a living tutorial on the wild and wonderful ways of Apache configuration. A wise old sysadmin once told me that the best way of learning Linux is to ls /bin and run man <command> for every command in there - then do the same thing for /sbin, then /usr/bin and so on until you run out of things to read. The same appears to be true of Apache configuration directives.

XML-based documentation using AurigaDoc

XML-based documentation using AurigaDoc 08/27/2004 01:37 PM
One XML's many uses is creating documentation. XML is incredibly well suited to producing output in multiple formats -- everything from HTML to PDF to JavaHelp. The most popular variant of XML for creating documentation is DocBook, but for all its power and flexibility, DocBook is difficult to learn, and the DocBook toolchain can be tough to set up. Consider instead AurigaDoc, an XML-based document engine that can output more than 10 commonly used document formats. Unlike DocBook, AurigaDoc is simple to learn; it uses a small number of tags, and yet produces clean and attractive output.
