Which Hotel Chains Have Wi-Fi?
04/08/2005 12:16 PM Travel columnist provides overview and links: A Washington Post
travel columnist answers a reader's question about using free Wi-Fi at
hotels with a long list with links and phone numbers of the chains
that have extensive free installations of Wi-Fi. Also noted is SBC's
statistic that 25 percent of travelers plan to use "wireless
electronics" (one assumes Wi-Fi) while on the road....

Intel adds bolts for Microsoft's chains
06/05/2005 11:10 PMIntel apparently has added "Microsoft-flavored" DRM to its Pentium D
and 945 chipset. Hannibal at ArsTechnica guesses: From what I can
tell, DTCP is essentially a protocol that sits on top of TCP/IP and
provides DRM by ensuring that both endpoints in an IP connection are
trusted before transmitted protected content. I imagine that Intel's
DTCP support is some kind of hardware-level means of enabling the
strict enforcement of this endpoint authentication in software. As to
what specific form this enablement takes, only further digging on our
part and more revelations from Intel will tell. This would,
apparently, prevent unwanted...

The World's Hottest Computer Lab
The World's Hottest Computer Lab
05/19/2004 12:03 AMHalf a world away from the calm beauty of Seattle and Puget Sound,
there’s a lab where software dreams come true. At Microsoft Research
Asia, the drive to succeed is as intense as the traffic that roars by
the front door in unbridled, chaotic fury. If Microsoft’s other
facilities around the globe seem idyllic, this one, in Beijing, China,
is pure street. Nearby high-rises compete with smokestacks for skyline
supremacy. Run-down buildings sit next to bustling consumer
electronics markets and the Beijing Satellite Manufacturing Factory,
where China conducts its spaceflight research. Microsoft’s mantra:
work hard to get in the door; work harder to survive; then work even
harder because the real work—that of an information technology world
leader—is just beginning.
