Video iPod? How Steve Jobs Can
Not Take Back His Words
08/27/2004 02:03 PMWhy is Apple looking for an engineer to work on
video
integration for the iPod, even after what Steve Jobs has said?
Here are some wild and crazy ideas...
1. Apple will pioneer a new
eyeglass add-on, where video will be piped to just one of the two
lens. Now, you
can watch video while exercising.
2. The
iPod will not only be able to record audio, but video too.
3.
Daddy and mommy can listen to jazz in the frontseat of their BMW,
while the kids can watch Barney in the backseat. From the same
iPod.
Do you have any
ideas beyond what
Microsoft is doing with its portable video player?

Steve Jobs says no to a media center Mac
11/06/2003 12:24 PMThis comes as quite a surprise, but the other day Steve Jobs told a
group of financial analysts that Apple has no plans to sell Macs that
could record TV shows like the new Media Center PCs that have been
coming out:"We're not going to go that direction," Jobs said. "There
is a small audience that likes this." Jobs said there are several
problems with the Media Center concept, in particular the wide
divergence in the way people want to watch television as compared with
how they use a computer. "Generally what they want to view on
television has to do with turning their mind off," he said. Jobs said
that video recording is processor intensive and is best left to a
device that is not doing other things such as playing games or running
spreadsheets. "When I want to record 'The West Wing,' I want to make
damn sure...

01/06/2005 03:00 PMSteve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and PIXAR Animation Studio, will be
Stanford University’s 2005 Commencement speaker, University President
John Hennessy announced yesterday.
An article today in The Stanford Daily says Hennessy selected Jobs
after receiving a list of recommendations from a committee consisting
of faculty members, graduate students and senior class presidents.
“The name Steve Jobs is synonymous with innovation and creativity over
the past three decades,” Hennessy said in a press release. “Steve has
been a leader and visionary, a pioneer in the use of technology as a
means to create a more engaging and humanistic world. The advisory
committee identified Steve as someone who personified the spirit and
creativity that have characterized Stanford since its founding. This
was an inspired recommendation, and I thank them for their thoughtful
work.”

04/13/2005 04:57 PMApple has released its second quarter financial results, showing an
increase of 70 per cent in revenue and a net income increase of more
than 500 per cent compared with the year-ago quarter.
For the quarter ending March 26, Apple posted a net profit of $290
million, or $.34 per diluted share. These results compare to a net
profit of $46 million, or $.06 per diluted share, in the year-ago
quarter. Revenue for the quarter was $3.24 billion, up 70 per cent
from the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 29.8 per cent, up from
27.8 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted
for 40 per cent of the quarter’s revenue.
Apple shipped 1,070,000 Macintosh units and 5,311,000 iPods during the
quarter, representing a 43 per cent increase in CPU units and a 558
per cent increase in iPods over the year-ago quarter.
“We are delighted to report a record second quarter for Apple in both
revenue and earnings,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Apple is firing
on all cylinders and we have some incredible new products in the
pipeline for the coming year, starting with Mac OS X Tiger later this
month.”
“We’re very pleased to report 70 per cent revenue growth and a 530 per
cent increase in net income,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO.
“Looking ahead to the third quarter of fiscal 2005, we expect revenue
of about $3.25 billion and earnings per diluted share of about $.28.”

12/26/2004 10:38 AMIt is not often that a company boss gets to bathe in the success of
a product that is a smash hit with consumers. It is rarer still for

remarkable for one chief executive to enjoy this level of success, not
