China, Germany
02/16/2004 10:43 AMAccording to DigiTimes, Acer and Microsoft will focus their tablet PC
co-marketing efforts this year on China and Germany, a move that both
significantly narrows Acer's earlier projected reach and expands it
into relatively new territory. DigiTimes cites the Chinese-language
Economic Daily News as its source on the development and says the
strategy was finalized during a meeting of top executives from the two
companies held in Taipei last week.

sources" is killing decent journalism.
“They called me when I was ombudsman and said, ‘Look,
you’ve got all these anonymous sources in here — why shouldn’t I
assume that you made it up?’ And when I would speak to people like
Woodward and others at the Post and say ‘This is a serious problem
for us,’ they say ‘Oh you know people know they can trust me.’
Well, people don’t trust them.”

Making Microsoft a niche player
08/30/2004 06:46 AMNovell engineer and manager Allison Singh recently predicted in an
Africa-based tectonic magazine article that Windows will become a
niche operating system, replaced by Linux as the new standard. A
gestalt of recent trends, events, and stories should tell you that
this prediction is right on the money. A gestalt, by the way, is a
perception or conclusion that goes beyond the sum of its parts. Here
are three of the many parts that comprise the gestalt.

Microsoft Making a Huge Mistake With
This One.
02/01/2005 09:43 PMWe all know that there are many, many version of Windows being used
around the world that are not legit. But the worst thing you could do
is refuse to update security holes or fixes because they are not
legit. That’s what Microsoft tends to do later this year. All I
can say is that anyone using a pirated Windows version needs to have
the same security updates as everyone else or we will all suffer from
more trojans, viruses, DOS attacks and slow downs on the internet.

Microsoft Making Encarta Into Wikicarta?
Not Quite
04/18/2005 06:48 PMMicrosoft's Encarta encyclopedia project often seems to be forgotten
in all of the various arguments over Wikipedia, but it appears that
they're feeling a bit of the Wikipedia-induced heat. They're going to
now make it easier for
people to suggest changes to Encarta
entries, if they feel they're wrong. Of course, those changes
will still be reviewed by an editor, so it's not really wiki-like at
all -- but that won't stop the press from making the connection. It's
just that Encarta is making the "feedback" functionality a little more
prominent and hoping that this allows them to catch some of the
Wikipedia hype wave.

TabletMagic lets Wacom serial tablets
work in OS X
07/01/2004 08:50 AMDeveloper Scott Lahteine has announced that Beta 5 of
TabletMagic 1.0, a free
open source Mac OS X driver for unsupported Wacom serial tablets, is
now available. The software includes a control application, and
Lahteine notes that it currently supports the ArtZ-II and PenPartner
tablets as well as others whose model numbers start with CT, KT, SD or
UD. He also says that it works with most USB-to-Serial adapters, such
as those made by Keyspan, but it doesn't yet work with ADB tablets nor
the iMate. TabletMagic 1.0 requires Mac OS X v10.2 or higher.
